That was just a frustration post. I've still got major reservations as to how this might completely knacker Counter-Strike. We'll have to see.

Here's another frustration post. Being a smug bastard, I thuoght I had this Steam by the proverbials. Then it refuses to do anything. I've COMPLETELY uninstalled it, cleared out the registry and hd of any trace of it. I then reinstall thinking it might go through the same process. Fat chance. well, I've just got it working. been on squonks server and it was running very nicely. Still no voice comms for me though, same issue as with 1.5

Hmmmm
I downloaded the same file that Tealeaf tried last night.
I got it in about 1.5 hours.
Only to find that it was borked...........not a valid windows 32 bit thingy wonga.
Installed Steam this morning at about 7-30 and was into my first game of CS_1.6 by 8-20 ish,
Absolutly marvelous ..........
My son DL on his PC straight after also.
No probs whatsoever.

The only problem I now face is sorting all my binds.
I used to use RzE's CS Helper you seeeeeeeeeeeeee.

the problem to me is that when WON go off line you will have no choice but  to use steam thus rolling back to 1.5 would not be an option

That's a fair point. In the not too distant future if you don't run steam you don't play CS (which is where all the worries about Valve charging for what is to all intents and purposes a free Mod).

The truth is, on a fairly standard XP install, I'm running Steam without much problem. I've played on several servers and it seems stable enough. So it does work (grudingly).

Having finally(!) got Steam to work, apparently properly, it's like living with porcelain and crystal and all kinds of delicate and expensive stuff around the house. I'm frightened to touch anything in case it breaks.   :unsure:

Mine works, allbeit after a couple of days worth of downloading but it does work.    I backed up my custom bindings from the beta install and transferred them over to the new versions so all my setting and buy scripts are working great too.

Well I hate to say it, but when I started up my PC this morning steam loaded in the background and during the last 5 hours has finally finished my steam update.  I just manged to get into a game of 1.6 for the very first time  Of course the sounds are crap and the first time I bought an MP5 I ended up with a TMP  :blink:  because all the menu slots have moved, but hey at least it is loaded  

Now all I have to do is read the buyscript page and then try to swap in some half decent models and sounds as the ones I saw and heard were appalling - damn, somebody get me a 1.6 CSRU patch quick!  :dribble:

Might even see some peeps online later for 1.6, hopefully even on our own server  :unsure:
