Over the top, perhaps?

I still don't get why a kid would do that. I think it's probably got something to do with all this emo rubbish them kids listen to. It wasn't like this in my day.

(I'm 22, but I'm practising these sorts of generic speeches for when I get older)

I have a friend who was a cutter for several years. To the best of my knowledge, you do it to feel pain, because pain is nonetheless something you can feel. You can go so numb and feel so empty inside that just feeling something helps you connect with the world around you.

I know the basic "they do it so they feel something" idea behind it. I just don't get why there are ever more depressed people unable to feel. Is it bad parenting, leaving the kids unattended feeling unloved, is is children are meaner than they used to be meaning there are more outcasts, or is it that it's been built up by the media that it's cool to be depressed.

Much like eating disorders started becoming a bigger problem when the media glamorised thinner people, drinking is getting worse and celebs are splashed all over magazines drunk daily.

I know it's probably a sweeping generalisation but it seems like the younger you start treating children as adults the more problems they have. They need freedom, but also good role models.

In this case, I think, it was bad parenting and total lack of emotion and interests from the parents side. I guess growing up in such a home, with no emotion, is a bad track towards feeling numb.

Much, much deeper my friend. Whilst lack of attention is always a "key" destabiliser, society as a whole in the West has become very "detached" from personal relationships and forming physical and psychological bonds.

Previously "we" might have formed teams\societies\allegancies\clubs based upon socio-economic guidelines, and this gave us a feeling of belonging to a subset, regardless of how low that subset might have been. Today, we all "aspire", and in that inspiration to be more than might simply make us happy, we have lost the essence of simplicity.

It is a common held belief in these times that unless you are successful, both financially and personally, you are nothing!!......and with opportunities forever being limited, "we" are creating the perfect recipe for Anarchy across the World.

Let me ask you a question.....when was the last time you did something for someone, you might not know, a "selfless act if you will"?.....a genuine act of kindness, without thought of reward?.

Sadly we as a Society (the West) are becoming so self obsessed with ourselves (a ME culture) that I would predict within a lifetime the West will fall, much as did the Chinese Dynasties, simply because we forgot basic principles.......Kindness and Humility far outweigh a bank balance and a brand new Porsche.....although I am sure some Monkeys still believe they have  real talent, as opposed to their parents paying over the odds for a "nondescript, fawning and somewhat bland offspring".

F**k, is that the Tome already (you know who you are), I should be going, as i have not understood Irony, or the fact that I am a fettered soul......
