Computer problems still ...

I haven't been around lately as my computer is seriously FUBAR. I get random BSODs and it sometimes are seconds in between them other times it can be hours. I have reinstalled Windows not long ago and that didn't help. I have replaced MOBO, memory and graphics card but no luck. I have removed or exchanged anything but the PSU and CPU so I guess one of them are the bad guys. At the moment my finances doesn't allow me to just buy a new PSU and CPU just to test and rule them out.

So, I don't know when I will be back on the server next time. I might be lucky and get a 3 hour BSOD-free evening next Friday but lately the computer have been up less than 10 minutes. So if I drop connection you know it is the BSOD-machines fault.

During the Windows install does the BSOD happen quickly enough to allow you to try various things without waiting a huge amount of time to know if it's worked?

If it's quick then:
Try a BIOS reset to default.
Try RAM sticks in different configs.

No it doesn't allow me to do anything. It basically loads the drivers then the BSOD appears. I will ty the BIOS reset, but considering I had the same problem with the "old" MOBO. I have exhanged to a brand new set of RAM sticks and the have the same problem. I think it is the CPU but could this happen if the PSU doesn't supply enough power?

Thanks for the suggestions. I will keep checking.

Edit: Yes this happens when I try to install WinXP 32 bit. I manage to get through the 64bit installation though. I still have the BSODs.

From what i can see, you need to install XP complete with SP2 from the off and this tends to fix the problem in most cases

My CD with XP only includes SP1. That could be the answer. Thanks.

Snokio, it seems to work so far. I have made a slipstreamed CD with XP and SP3 (there were instructions for that as well). I have passed the BSOD point and everything seems to be moving along nicely.

BSOD first time I tried CSS. Need to see if a reinstall of steam will help. Otherwise I am back to square one.
