You gotta laugh.

Two of the maps regarded as too one-sided were vote-extended during the past couple of days.

My explanation is that people like the challenge of being on the underdog side.

Sadako hates cs_assault. I hate it too. But only as a T. As a CT I find it so rewarding to break down the T defence that I'm happy to win a few rounds on that map (cs_siege too) just because it's so tough.

Having said all that I'm all in favour of keeping the server 'fresh' and tweaking the map rotation is one way of doing it. I bow to Sadako's PCS knowledge and as such I am happy to try some new maps.

Don't miss out. Download the map pack ppl.

PS

Lots of new faces again tonight. Hope you all enjoyed it. If you didn't - let me know why. If you did - tell your mates  8)

Totally agree with that, much prefer playing the underdog side. Mainly to help improve my game/team play. Even on public servers where team play isn't exactly popular.

Well hate is a strong word. But yes I dislike the map. The reason is this. If we have many players on each team (more than 6) the Ts have an advantage at the start if we just look at the house structure. This usually means that the Ts win the first round, i.e gets more money than the CTs and we have pistol vs ak/mp5 for 3 more rounds. Ts usually wins 4 or 5 rounds in a row. By this time the CTs have enough money to buy both kevlar and mp5. The Ts are more well equipped and have chunk of money for at least 2 more rounds (if they lose).

There are other maps based on assault that are more balanced. On N42 we have wildwest_assault that is way better but still caused (and causes) great controvercy when played there. The pinning down of the hostages in the 1.4 update basically destroyed a very good and interesting map. There have been huge discussions regarding ww_assault on N42 and ppl have almost become enemies over it. I hate this to happen here.

I just want to say that some maps played in a PCS style wont work that good. Assault if played right by T results in a no win situation for CT. I have played ww_assault on N42 as T and won the game by 9-0 just by guarding the only entrances and not sticking your head out. Still this is a more balanced map than the original assault. As I see it when many players are on the server the T team should never lose a a single round. I think the maps (both of them) do more harm than good on a PCS server.

Same can be said on militia and siege but that is a different story. Ts should never lose on those maps either. de_milita is better than cs_militia imo.

Regarding joining the underdog side I have repeatedly seen ppl join the easy side first making the teams unbalanced (3 CT  vs 7 T the other night on assault). I hope ppl would press the TAB-button to check the teams (and the score) before joining a team. Auto is not and has never been an option.

In the last map pack that I was involved in on N42 I wanted some new tactics to evolve from the maps so we tried hard to find non-standard maps. Volare, bitterwine and sampa (all in the pack Oldbloke have compiled) have multiple routes to each bombspot. Both T and CT have possibilites for advanced tactis (and are required to have). I think that both cs_france and cs_drugwar are different than the standard rescue maps. Communication and tactics is a must to win on these maps imho.
I hope you will enjoy them as much as I have.

Tox's dad

i've d/l'd the pack and lanned 2 have a look, intercept is the only one 1 that works 4 me.....i get the following:-

Mod_NumForName: models/sampa/cervagib.mdl not found

Mod_NumForName: models/mediumplant.mdl not found

unable to open valve/de_volare.wad

any ideas?

When you extract the files to your Half-life directory you must preserve the folder structure or the files will all sit in the Half-life directory.

Check to see if the missing model files are there. If they are then unzip again looking for the option to preserve the folder structure.

In the first post of this thread you can see that I have done just that.
Note that it is the final version of cs_intercept that is in the pack and not the one I linked to. Here is the right one.
