What happened to crouch?

Can anyone remind me why the crouch server died the death? I have to 'fess up and say thay I've been playing CoD5 on a modded crouch server (Open Warfare mod) True, we had to start from scratch with the ranks, but as everyone was in the same boat...np.
This particular mod enforces crouch, allows a 3 second run with a 30 second recovery time, bandages and some other stuff. The server is almost always very well supported. Which leads me to think that there are a lot of like minded folk out there.
They did have an unmodded crouch server but the constant admin nags and console messages were a nightmare! Now it doesn't matter if they run, they soon collapse in a heap, wheezing their lungs out. :lmfao:
I would dearly love to see dMw play in this way.
The reason for this post is that I played CoD4 with Blunt and TE the other night and it was good. A few more dMw joined and it was still good. Then the publics started to arrive and.....I left.

Snokio and I have had this conversation a couple of times, and whilst I enjoyed the crouch gameplay, I don't think that relying on peoples sportsmanship to obey the rules works very well. I found myself running (I just can't help it as my normal tactics involve dashing between points and rushing the enemy), then apologising, rinse, repeat.
My main contention to Snoke is that if there was a mod that restricted the run to 5 secs, and a long recovery time, then that would suit us fine.
I am coming from an admin angle here, it's a PITA to admin a normal dMw pubby server with the few rules that we have; an un-modded pubby would be a nightmare. Not enough members play cod4 often enough to make a private server game every night.
If there was a mod for cod4 that enforced the run restriction (I take it that walking normally is allowed) then I'm all for it.
If we had another server running it, we could advertise it to our many regular pubbies (we get the same guys come back time and again) and I reckon it would be popular.

Crouch was good fun, but we could not get the players on to make it viable.  May be worth another look when MW2 is released

What would be different in MW2?

Well, it'd be laggier, and you wouldn't be able to play with so many people, and.. ah, you were talking about crouch? :P

Seriously though, I would agree with Blunt - a mod to limit running and so forth would probably work nicely (although that wouldn't be possible in MW2 either).  The thought of Blunt not being able to run and knife me is a happy one. :D

I was never terribly keen on the crouch style - while it may be more realistic, I've never heard anyone claim that a real battle is fun...

maybe as its all doom and gloom on the mw2 front it might be worth another look ?
