This follows on from Snokios reminder about Nade spamming and opens up debate (construtive hopefully).

  • Jumping and shooting is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! People bouncing round a map with a gun or jumping round corners shooting will be kicked. We are trying to make it realistic within the confines of the game.
This is getting more prevelant by dMw players - ask Sheepy... he turned into Mr Bunny boy last week on Bog.

Do CSS players jump alot? Whatever its not allowed on COD servers and is annoying - the lack of jumping is one of the reasons that so many COD regulars prefer to play on dMw servers rather than public ones. Please refrain.

And then this happened last week...

Last week while playing on 'ambush' map (Headquarters) I accidentally TKed Rouge - I wasn't aware that the flag flashes when one of your own team is trying to cap it until Snokio explained - but I was sure I'd seen movement up there and I hadn't heard any of my team on Comms/text tell me they where capping it so I lobbed a grenade in. Result? I TKed Rouge - and was about to apologise (as I always do) when dMw.Rouge messaged something along the lines of

'FFS dewey watch your nades' *this may not have been exactly what he said (you'd need to read the logs) but the tone was he was obviously annoyed.

- understandbly he was annoyed BUT that response isn't what I expect from dMw players - if I responded like that everytime I got TKed - well there would be a lot of annoyed COD players!

I was halfway through typing an apology to rouge when I saw the above reply which got my back up and I ended up in an slight altercation with Snokio (I think it was Snokio). Snokio had intervened and made the point that I shouldn't have thrown the nade if I wasn't sure if anyone was up there. Fair point - though I thought I had seen movement up there (correctly but not oppo as it turned out) and had heard/seen nothing from Rouge telling me he was capping the flag.

Apologies Snokio for my attitude I realise after you where trying to keep the peace and admin the game.

I was also annoyed as its general practice to tell your team mates you are taking the flag to prevent accidental TK (how many times have you rushed into a flag only to be shot or shoot your team mate already taking it?)- but I heard nothing from rouge.

However - Rouge like me just may have been having a bad day - also Bro Tobius has pointed out - I could have also used Comms to ask if anyone was capping the flag - fair point.

Which bring me onto Poor Comms in COD4

Poor comms seems quite prevalent on Cod - I've played whole games on COD and heard nothing until the end of the game when everyones saying good game etc.

Theres certain players who I know will always use comms and its therefore dependent on who is on your side but for a community whose ethos is Team work I'm surprised how little comms is used - and think it should be mandatory - not a running commentary but certainly things like

'I'll defend A'
'Moving up on B'
'Capping flag'
etc

I use comms a lot - I think its an important tool to help you win games and promote teamwork while also making the experience more enjoyable.

I'm interested in hearing other peoples opinions.

ps Some people may read this and say 'hey dewey your a fine one to talk about rules - with your Noob tube!'

 - well to answer those critics I only ever use my noob tube for a few games a night - the rest I use other guns so I don't feel I'm over using it - however if its annoying I'll stop playing with it - though I'd like a discussion about it first - as I feel claymores and snipers are the spawn of the devil but thats another discussion :)

When I do play I see this a lot and completely agree.

I would have done exactly the same. Movement, no comms and the potential for the 'enemy' to be capping a flag (ignoring the flashing piece). Nade it.

This is like the Bryan Adams of the forum world here. We hear complaint after complaint about the comms in CoD4. If you don't tell your teammates where you are, then frankly it's your own fault.
A wider question is the 'is the comms in CoD4 any good technically? It seems to work and I've not seen issues. Join a game, ask if people can hear you, laugh politely when they say 'no' or 'who said that'.

It doesn't strike me as hard. The LAN reignited my CoD4 interest (still with small numbers) and it's a shame that I'm so fickle about who I'll play with. <-bet that comment gets me in trouble. That said, I'll try harder to be more open about those decisions.

I agree with you both.

I really enjoy CoD but when I use voice comms half the time it feels like a flipping monologue

BrotherTobious

I agree the comms has got really quite slack recently (I know I have not been on the server much)  But some night are great, others just feel you talking to yourself, untill the end of the map.

In that situation playing, devils advocate all I can suggest is that you could of asked "anyone at B"  But on the other side Rouge could of said at "I am at B."

So yeah more comms please people for example,

Covering B,
Contact A
Bomb down (then rough loc)

but my personal one is AS when laying down a AS please let people know  where, so they can get out of harms way!!

Sorry if this sounds like a lecture it not meant to be, its just trying to add more fun to the game.

Also the Bunny hopping has gotten a little silly.  Lets keep it real and keep both feet on the ground. :)

I've also noticed dMw players bunnyhopping recently and I've pointed it out to them, but those in question never responded so they either never saw my message or chose to ignore it.

I agree about the use of comms.  Typically you'll hear me saying if I'm on a flag, and I will mention the location of any enemies I see (if I can't kill them immediately) or where I'm moving, if I'm moving forward into the enemy's area.  I do think that a lot of my TKs happen because others don't do the same.

I can kind of understand Sheepy wanting to jump in games - I know he can't escape gravity in real life :narnar:

Lexander

I am saying it again what I have said before about comms.
When playing with small numbers like 3vs3 it is so much easier to talk about positions and what is happening. But lately with full server 8vs8 and the small maps of cod4 it tends to get to die/kill/die/kill (nade)fest and it really makes it harder to use comms. There are seven other people in your team and trying to listen them, play on your own and speaking while doing those two at the same time is pretty hard, atleast for me.  But in general the comms should be better, it is my opinion that the 4vs4 is idea game mode for cod4 with more tactical play and better comms.

Dewey

I agree it is harder in larger squads - however I would still hear if someone said

I'm capping flag A
 or
need help at B
etc

As long as the commands/request for help/updats are short it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Zootoxin

When we were playing in the COD Ladder our comms were superb and really made a difference between win or lose.

But on a full server on a game as fast paced and frantic as COD4 I think its difficult to put all the puzzles of sensible tactical play in order for the kind of round many of us yern for.

You have to haul ass on cod or you are dead before you know whats hit you.

I do agree that a quick shout of Capping/Defending should be there always and by everyone but don't expect miricles.

Just think back to the CSS days, we had to develop the banned areas as well as enforcing the bunny hopping etc to get close to tactical warfare

COD4 is a great fast paced game but it never really feels very tactical to me.

T-Bag

I try and say when I'm in the site or when I see and enemy in it so people know whether to nade or not. Getting angry about a TK makes you tedious to play with so I don't do it. And with most of the DMW lot they don't either. There have been times when I just have a bad map and kill 5-6 people on my team (or even more maybe 1/3 of my kills) and I've not know anyone to get angry.

DMW is the only server I play CoD 4 on, I used to play on all sorts and the nade spamming starting getting more and more annoying to me, so I cut down to just this server and I have a good time, but if bunny hopping, nade spamming and general abuse is allowed to creep in it will be a horrible place to play.

Saying that I've not really had any negative experiences, and most of the time I don't TK but it seems to suddenly start and last for a whole map for no reason whatsoever.

Bunny hopping is crap and it's not the 'DMW way', anyone who does it should be warned/kicked where appropriate imo.

As for TK's, there should never be bitching/arguing/anything else over an accidental TK - just as long as you apologise promptly afterwards.

We've all made a mistake and capped someone by accident, and if you get wound up enough by people making honest mistakes to have a go at them well... maybe you should be playing elsewhere...

I have to say, that sometimes I do jump as Dewey knows.
It's just the reaction of being on Publicservers and you want to take enemies down while they surprised you.
Sorry for that.

For the rest, comms are really important on this game. Use it, warn other people and don't forget, if you get TK'd, they can't hear you the first few seconds untill they respawn.

It's a great game and I still like it but me thinks we should try and do it different like on CSS, have a few games early on in the evening, then drop to our Privateserver. Before that, spam our website and let people join us through that.

Mate - to be fair I've only seen you bunny hop a few times - which you apologised immediately for - least you had the decency to acknowledge it and I haven't seen you do it since - fair play to you. We've had  a few laughs about it since then :)
