Posted here in the private and warm inviting area so I don't stir the natives yet.

What are everyone's thoughts?

I don't like it. It feels fuzzy. It seems not to register hits as well, melee weapons and shotguns particularly. The maps, whilst nice feel too open.

It may well be a 'getting used to' thing but I like the darker, less cartoony feel of L4D1.

Perhaps the versus will change my mind, but on that front, without playing it, I'm concerned that given how 'hard' the levels currently are, adding in 4 infected bosses will kill it.

A boomer followed by a spitter? Everyone stand still and crouch as you can't move through the horde and someone spits that green crap on you? Have the rest of you tried the versus yet?

I've posted in here as I want the game to work, it's immensely popular and the first was fantastic. I have my doubts though.

I played last night for 10 mins and then bailed to play some nice calm CoD.

May be because it's new etc but it just hasn't grabbed me as L4D did. I really enjoyed the last time I played and 4 of us went out but last night was just too manic. I'm going to give it another go before making a judgement and I'd like to try some other maps rather than the skyscraper thing I was in.

Shame though if the potential just doesn't measure up.

I must say that I haven't tried versus yet but I can imagine that the Survivors will have their work cut out for them.
I think that to actually get anywhere they will have to play more as a team and cover each other, clear areas before moving in and take their time.
The increased power of the melee weapons, one-hit kills on special infected, should even the balance, but would you want to get close to the boomer or spitter to whack them? I think not. The chain-saw clears a horde very effectively.
The hit boxes do seem a bit off, but weren't they in the original L4D release?

Playing in Co-Op mode the overall level is more difficult, which is not a bad thing as in L4D it was getting to be too easy. We had tactis that worked and as long as people followed them we all got to the ends.

Having open areas also gives the survivors more space to move and get out of the way of a charger, dodge some acid and out-flank a tank. Maybe we need to review our tactis of crouching down when boomered? Maybe a run and hide variation?

I've only tried the first two campaigns and the day-light hasn't really bothered me, but it isn't as scary or moody as L4D was. I can see that in versus mode the lack of dark bits will make the infecteds job a bit harder.
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

PC Specs:- Black box with some fans that go whirrr, a few lights, things inside that get warm, headphones, keyboard (a clicky one), mouse (with buttons and no squeak), disks (2-off SSD and HDD) and a monitor of sufficient proportions.

And we were playing with a man down because of Gnomie. I reckon without the Gnome it wouldn't appear as hard as you'd have the extra firing.

And I do like the flying bodies when the pipebombs go off.

So far I've only played on the first two campaigns and so I've not seen the rest.

So Benny how are you feeling about L4D2 now? Has the grumpy gherkin that was stuck in your craw been replaced by a lovely warm glow in your belly?

The more I play the more I like it. It is different to L4D. The premise is the same but the game feels different. The levels are well crafted and the routes through them are variable. I also like the little fun elements and dialogues. Clowns with squeaky shoes :roflmao:

I'm up for it tonight if anyone's going to be online :)

There is a certain Gnome that needs rescuing in Dark Carnival that we haven't managed to do yet.
It needs close team-play and a can-do attitude. Also careful observation and listening to you team mates helps.
If you feel these qualities apply to you and you can find us then maybe the dMw Zombie Apocalypse Avengers could use your help. :boxing:

After getting so close last time only to be foiled by the chopper coming down on the wrong side, I definitely want another go. :boxing:

I'm up for some gnome rescuing too :)

I write down everything I want to remember. That way, instead of spending a lot of time trying to remember what it is I wrote down, I spend the time looking for the paper I wrote it down on.

Benny

It is growing on me. I'll be on tonight....sounds like versus then :)

On the downside I can't go anywhere that involves jumping. I cut the end of my thumb off so can't press the space bar.

OK so Versus it is. Gnomeie will have to wait cowering in his cupboard, looking out at the undead until the next time.

I'd tape your thumb up good and proper Benny because I can guarantee that you'll be hammering the space bar before you can stop yourself. Maybe get a bit of foam and lay it over the space bar to minimise the pain and blood leakage?

No can, sliced the end cm of nail and flesh off...so it's all wrapped up.

I can play, but need to have vc on my mouse button which is odd, or permanently open channel, which is odd for you as you'll hear my family annoying me.
