having a heck of a time getting this to run on steam. Anyone running this successfully on W7?

Just tested this, works fine. Sorry I can't be of more help.

how did you install yours? are you on W7? 64bit?

T-Bag

I had it installed already. (I have a 750GB partition on a hard drive set up for my steam folder so I can have all my games installed at once - Don't worry it's not full yet). I just reinstall Steam into the same folder once I put my OS on. So I formatted and started fresh with Win 7 and reinstalled steam. Nothing fancy.

It's x64 Professional. Running on a Quad core, 4GB Ram, 4870.

Same for me. Had the game installed on Vista. Backed the Steam folder up to an extenal hard drive, installed W7 64 bit home permium and then dragged the Steam folder back onto the hard drive.

Running on a couple of Nvidia 260GTX cards. All seems to be running fine.

What are you exact symptoms?

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

I've installed it three times now.. (deleted content). Twice from download once from dvd's.

Installs and updates ok (I think?). When I go to run it the small steam window comes up and tells me it's starting and then it disappears.. nothing happens after that..

Do you need to 'Verify Integrity of Game Content' (I think its called that).

Can you install it as a Non-Steam Game or does it require Steam?

Just another idea - can you create a shortcut on Desktop and then Right click Run as Administrator?

That's a plan. Although I just checked bothe the Steam and Empire executables and I'm running neither as administrator :g:

One rather drastic plan might be to completely uninstall empire and any associated game save folders etc.

Then create a small partition. Install windows vista/xp, install steam and then empire. At least you can play?

tried the admin thing a while ago.. no joy.. also, i've verified the integrety a few times.. :/

It must be some of the pre-requisite files. When I first went to play it there was a pause while it installed C++ redistributable and DX again. Have a search what it requires and see if you can grab them separately.

Against my better judgement I'm downloading this pos for a third time..

I'm wondering if this is a memory issue.. I am running 2gb at the moment but I while I could accept that the memory issue would make it run like shite it should at least start up.. :/

Should run on 2Gb and even 1Gb? Maybe take one out and see if it runs?  Then do the other stick?

I sorted it.. As I purchased the software I thought I'd give the cracked version a try to see if it made any difference. Through the install process I had to run install.resdist.cmd which downloaded a bunch of files from M$oft for Direct X. I thought that this was the problem all along to I went back into my steam version to give it a shot..

VOILLA! no problem.. :D
