I made a post in the main forum about the web site, which is now turning a bit wearly

However I thought I should do you the courtesy of explaining one point. I'm planning on relocating much of the information we have created about each game i.e game ethics, server Ip's, server rules, information, help, tips, map rotations etc. etc. into the CMS sections of the new web site. The original sticky posts can stay or be archived. It's up to you all. Once it's up and running I'm assuming the Section Heads and or certain nominated, trusted game admins will be able to tweak and update the information themselves. Much like a moderator can edit a forum post. This way you will be able to control your own content rather than rely on me to do it....wrongly probably.

I don't think it's going to require a lot of work to maintain. As I say a tweak here and there as you find certain information changing. In fact it's going to be no harder than maintaining your list of forum sticky posts and keeping them up to date.

Hope that explains stuff in case you thought I was volunteering you for loads of work. :D

Excellent idea and sure gets rid of a lot of the stickies :)

None of which has happened it looks like so we may need to give them another nudge.

Oi! My section is pretty tight!...ish

On the subject, I'm happy to contribute to whatever content you want or I see has helpful. I've always fancied writing articles, not sure I can, but fancy a try.

I'm not going to post it in the main forum because frankly I can't be arsed with the baiting. It's not an offer, it's a statement. I will contribute as I would expect to as a SH.

The other side of the coin is I'd say you've all shown remarkable restraint given the comments that appeared. Kudos to you. (Todays word is Kudos, yesterday was 'running it up the flagpole')

....scuttling off to check my section.

OK poor choice of words. I really meant the moderators' sections. Some of those are the most bloated. :)

Benny

Oh and to reply here instead of elsewhere, which I may do when I get to work..

If people *want* to help, why don't they instead of waiting in line like a fecking playschool class waiting for permission to go for a poo.

Cheers Benny. I'm beginning to think we might have a bit of content appearing after all. What I'd like to try and do is work it so that while we can have this stuff we won't look crap if we have a period of inactivity as well. As Penfold says there's nothing worse that "This site was last updated in 2003" So maybe we try to do stuff that doesn't show a date created? Then we can have occasional stuff without requiring regular contributions....... or something:g:

I asked the CS:S admins to look into this on 29th October
QuoteHi all,
I'd like to do a tidy up of the CS:S section of the forum by culling, combining or re-wording the many Stickies at the start of each section.
This spring clean is in advance of changes to the forum. The will be new forum software and It is envisaged that we will have a wiki for most of our rules, tips etc.
I would to get ahead of the game by sorting out what Threads need our attention.
I would like to divide the work between ourselves to make the job easier and quicker.
There are 8 sub-forums and a main one, so if you take two each, I'll do the main forum, collate the results and make the changes we decide.
All I want you to do atm is to have a look at what stickies there are and suggest some changes, you don't even have to read most of them to get an idea of what to do. The main aim is to make the forum experience better by not having a load of stickies to scroll through to get to the posts.

If you are unable/too busy to take on the task, let me know and I'll find another admin, but I chose your names as you are the more frequent admins on CS atm.
Who does what:
Kreg should do Matches & Tactics plus Match availability.
Soon Jung can take on Server rules plus Advanced Tactical Skills.
Snokio gets Tactical CS plus Mapping and modelling.
and Delanvital can do Help Section plus Private chat.
If you want to swap amongst yourselves that's fine.
When you've had a look, PM me with the details and I'll put them all together. If we need to chat about anything all together, we can meet up on TS or MH.
I'm not sure when the new software is coming, so I think if you can report back within a week or so, we can finalise everything in about two weeks.
If you have any ideas outside of this brief, don't be afraid to mention them also.
Thanks for reading this far.:D
Del dropped out, but the rest contributed some ideas.
Given a couple of days notice, I can implement the changes.
Regards
Blunt

No worries Pete,

So long as we can get this done to coincide with the redesign it will work well.

I'll ask the moderators again to have a look once WWWIII has quietened down again.

It would be good not to transfer stuff over to the new site that you don't want to keep. So I think it wise to make sure we have what we want in order before we make the jump. At the moment 'content' exists in the forums (which we can prune/edit) and on the site (which we can't). I'm planning on moving the static site content into the CMS as it is. Then it's will be much simpler to edit that it is at the moment.

I'm very mindful that you all run these section and not me. So they need to reflect how you want them laid out and how you want them filled with information. As we approach D-Day we'll need to know exactly what does and doesn't want to be included. Once in the new CMS it will be simple to tweak and edit the information.

just to add on that note:

As i'm the new kid on the block i didn't attend the meeting were SH were asked to trim up sticky's.

that being said the Arma 2 section is fairly new and thus hasn't really had time to get overloaded with to much stuff, but....
now that i know, i will have a tidy up and get things organised.
It is better to stay quiet and act the fool, than to say something and remove all doubt

Had some spare time so went through the Technology Section and trimmed the number of stickied posts down to just 5.  Damn it looks better now.
