Hey guys... Just thought I'd give you the quick and dirty on my overclocking project.

As you'll recall I went out and purchased a Barton 2500 AQXEA and the new LanParty NFII motherboard. I also picked up that Aero 7+ Cooler and some copper RAM-sync's to keep the memory cool.

I kept my PC2700 from my old rig and swapped it out... I chose the LP NFII for it's overclockability and the same for the Barton 2500.

Being the complete novice at this overclocking thig I was quite nervous about the whole thing. Anyways.. Here's my scores before the Overclock.

CPU temp under load 40.C
CPU temp idle 38.5.C
3DMark 2001 SE 11544
PCMark 2002: CPU 5661 Mem 4864 HDD 901

The project was quite simple in the end... By a stroke of luck I found someone that was actually running a very similar rig including identical memory. I blagged his BIOS specs and went for it..

The results are superb. I used WCPUID and it now thinks I'm running a XP 3200  :D  :D

Here's the changes.. Running stable for 3 hrs now:

CPU Temp idle 43.5 (I cranked up the speed of my Aero 7+ all the way)
CPU Temp under load currently 45.5 but this should go higher after all-night sessions
3DMark 2001 SE 11757
PCMark 2002 CPU 6739 Mem 5675 HDD 1117

Here's the voltages..  :D

Barton XP2500 AQXEA @ 2.2GHz, 1.675Vc
DFI LP NFII @ BIOS 2003/07/18, NForce V.2.45 chipset drivers, 1.7V
2 x 512MB Samsung PC2700 @ 200MHz, Trp3-Tras10-Trcd3-CL2.5, 2.7V

Top clocking!

I'm waiting for TeaLeaf to go and buy a compressor, and do a 4ghz jobby :P

nahh, TL will probably go the flourinert route and supercool the sucker for a 10Ghz monster :)

Nah TL won't - it's too expensive - I've looked ;)

I replaced the XP2000 that was in my 'work' PC last night with an AQXEA 2500 Barton and it runs real nice and cool compared to the Palamino.  Haven't tried to overclock it yet but then I probably won't unless I swap my mobo and RAM out, they are currently an Asus A7V333 with some Corsair XMS PC2700 which kind of limits things FSB-wise  :(

That's a nice o/c you got there Ninja :D   We look forward to seeing it at the LAN and I hope that these forums were in some small way responsible for your enthusiasm for the virgin overclock attempt  :D

You can check here to see how you have done compared to everyone else around the world!

Thanks TL.

I have to admit that my interest was sparked by the work you've been doing and these forums.

I do feel I cheated a bit but what the hell... It's fast and working great.. My Folding speed has definately increased.. :)

Yeah you're right, you did cheat.........you cheated AMD out of about an extra £270 that they wanted to charge you for a chip that goes as fast as your £70 cpu does now :D

Cheat away Ninja!
