hey folks. strange situation. New install (used MB) only 1 stick of ram, gpu, hdd's, and cpu in place.

reset bios

re-boot recognises cpu and memory.

press del to go into bios.

bios asks Y/N for advanced mode

keyboard doesn't respond.

tried with a ps/2 kb as well..

Any ideas? is the CMOS chip borked?

I've had that with usb and wireless KB on older motherboards but never with ps/2 ones, ...long shot but have you tried a different keyboard? :) And one very random thought - German KB have y and x or y and z swapped, I forget which exactly, maybe your BIOS is foreign?

I originally thought it could be the usb bios support is turned off, but if it doesn't work with a ps2 keyboard either I'd suspect a motherboard issue.

If you've taken the battery out or otherwise reset the bios I'm not really sure what else you can do without a keyboard.

does the light in the keyboard light up when POST is complete?

figured it out after a couple of tries...

hit F1 to continue instead of going into bios and the bios reloaded and I was able to get in there.. must be something to do with me clearing the cmos..

Thanks folks.. All good.. I'm on the new rig now :D
