It all comes down to the type of game & what it was originally meant to be played on for me - fps & rts type on pc, arcade & action type on console.

Console to pc conversions are just generally dire, pc games are usually cheaper.

There's no definitive answer for me.

Graphically, Control, Price wise and for Online play PC.

For ease of use XBox (No installs etc)

For playing Heavy Rain PS3.

I wouldn't play games on anything other than a PC. Games are cheaper but it costs more to buy, but if you want DX10 or 11 (which look much nicer in many -if not all cases) you can't get on current generation consoles. If you want high resolution, you need a PC too, consoles play on TVs but at 720 or 1080 res where as most desktop monitors are larger than this, even if your TV supports higher it will only upscale the signal. I have my PC hooked up to my PC so could play it that way if I wanted so you don't lose that feature, and if your TV supports better it can run at that resolution.
If you miss your controller you can use a 360 controller (wired or wireless) on almost every game that has come out since the 360 too, and I use that for driving in GTA 4.
DLC is typically free on PC though they have started adding ones you pay for in the past few years, but there are still plenty of free ones and mods too.

I consider what I have to be the ideal way of doing things (although spec wise I'm not as good as I could be), Fast PC, Decent graphics hooked up to a large TV and large monitor, with a decent keyboard, mouse and wireless 360 controller.

Your asking the same as which religion is best.. personal preference m8..

Neither are best for gaming..

they all got pros and cons..

Xbox, not really sure what its good for, looking big? (yes i own one)

Ps3, one of the fastest BD players out there.. other then that i got a cool game with rubber ducks and a bathtub thingie on mine.. (and yes own one of those too)

Consoler are great for sports games tho..

PC yeah we love those, cause they nearly got it all and does whatever the consoles does, just better ;)

Yes this might seem baised towards PC, but as previously stated its all personal preference, and i prefer puters..

I personally prefer my xbox 360 easy to use and less hassle than a pc. Although drawbacks are you have to pay for online content others are free. I use my Xbox for streaming videos so i prefered it to the ps3 although if your going to use it online check to see what console most of your friends are using (if you want to play with them).

New Xbox is brilliant by my opinion, slim, quiet as hell (just dont put it direct on a desk as it has no feet) and light weight.

As was said above its personal prefrence but if your after a specific kinda games i go:
PC - RTS, Online MMO, wierd ass flash games
Xbox - Shooters/Action simply due to fact it has alot more available for it then the PS3 or PC
PS3 - Found this to be a mostly Racing game console as everyone who has these has LOADS of racing games

On random note they should reformat the old crash bandicoot games to current format, be wonderful

Hopefully I'm not hijacking this thread but on the subject of which console is best I'm possibly going to be getting an Xbox. My question is whether it's possible to own an Xbox, buy games for it on discs and play them without going anywhere near Xbox Live. Do the consoles provide an serious bug fix and update service over the Internet and if so do I have to sign up with the Evil Overlords to get them? I'd never play a multiplayer  Xbox game but there are some single player games I like the look of.

Loads of updates come over the air from what I've read. Not sure if you need to sign up or not. But DLC wise unfortunately they charge for most (even stuff free on other platforms) so you'll definitely need to sign up for that.

Not sure what the problem is signing up with microsoft, I've already got accounts with the for Windows live and Games for Windows live. Not put a credit card up or anything like that so it's "Fairly" safe.

You can set up a Silver Xbox account for free Smilo, I think it's the same thing as windows live/gfwl, so if you already have that then you'd already be set - which gets you game & xbox updates & access to demos & stuff, you basically just can't play online without a gold account. I don't bother with Gold as I only play online on pc these days, so Gold is pointless for me.

Tutonic

I don't own an Xbox (went for the PS3 instead, mainly for the Blu-Ray drive) but I know that Microsoft/Whoever do put out updates/patches etc for games over Xbox Live - obviously if you don't have a Live account you're not going to get these.

As login as that doesn't bother you, the easiest solution is not to plug a network cable in - I haven't heard of a single-player title that cant be played offline.

I own a PS3, XBOX and several PC's, and as an FPS competitive gaming machine the PC is the best by a mile. The drawbacks to PC gaming are that to play the latest games you need to upgrade constantly which is very expensive. Also PC's are fairly non standard so thing often go wrong while as consoles are pretty much a black box that you put DVD/BLURAY into and they just work without hassle.

If you buy a console you know that all games will perform how they were designed to for the lifetime of that machine. In the case of the PS3 SONY are committed to a "10 year plan", so 10 years before you need to upgrade to a new machine. The cost of the extra games over this period may outweigh the benefits, depends on what spec PC you buy and how many games you buy a year.

If you want to chill out with multiple friends all playing different games or just play with someone you know (or anyone with a Mic) get an XBOX. The community is better and there are better features to encourage team play. Microsoft hit the right balance there compared to the PS3 which cant do party chat and you can barely talk to people in game.

The PS3 packs the biggest punch over the XBOX in terms of hardware but its hard to program for and many games are designed for the PC or XBOX and ported over to the PS3. This means that 80% of games look worse on the PS3 or the same as the XBOX even though it has a fraction of the power (this is due to Sony not offering a proper development kit while as M$ offer XMA studio which is very simple and easy to use.)

For FPS and "shiny" gaming get a PC. Its the best all rounder and can do everything the other two can and a lot more!
For racing and chilling out on a sofa with loads of mates playing different games get an XBOX. Easiest to use and more versatile of the consoles as SONY have removed other OS.
For Bluray (and homebrew if your into that thing) get a PS3.

I've been an avid XBox gamer on both XBoxes. However, I recently lost patience with how many had packed in on me. A work mate offered me his PS3. He was selling it after the security breach on the PSN. I wasn't sure so he let me borrow it so I could decide if I wanted it. TBH I didn't really like it although it was mostly the controller that put me off. The 360 controller is a much better controller for me. I decided to try PC gaming but I must admit to struggling with it at the moment. The PCs pros are:

1. Mouse/keyboard much more accurate for FPS and more convenient for strategy games.
2. Graphically far superior.
3. Steam.

The cons I have already found are:

1. The PC doesn't have the "casual community" like consoles do. PC gamers tend (and I don't mean this in a negative way) to take their gaming a lot more seriously. That's not aimed at DNW but PC clans/communities in general. So many require try outs, almost interviewing potential new members on forums etc. There are the odd console community that do that but they are the minority.
2. Configuration. Hardly a game I have tried has worked out of the box yet. On a console you just pop the disk in and play. PC gaming is a headache in comparison.
3. Gamepad support in many games is poor.
4. Comms. Console comms just work. PC comms require TS or Ventrillo or Steam etc. It's so much hassle.
5. Some games just don't work properly. TF2 still won't run properly on my PC. You don't get that problem with consoles for obvious reasons.

It boils down to this for me. So far, I have spent more time trying to get games to work on my PC than actually playing them. That is just wrong especially for someone like me who works all week and has little time to to play anyway.

I'm not giving up with PC gaming but it's wearing me down.

If you have specific issues with any game (especially with any we play and provide servers for) please ask. As to recruitment we don't really do that (except for World of Warcraft for obvious reasons). We allow players to add the -=[dMw]=- tag to their name if they become regular players of a supported game and display a decent attitude. Otherwise we're pretty relaxed.

As mentioned I didn't mean DMW. This place seems to be a minority compared to most PC communities though. Hence the reason it's the only one I signed up to.
