We currently have a good few L4D servers running.

We're about to add another ArmaII server to BA4 and also move the forums from Gandalf's ageing web-server to BA4 to improve response times.

With this in mind we're looking at server overheads and would like to know how many L4D servers you want to run.  Can we have your thoughts please Snooks (and other L4D admins).

L4D 1 still gets played now and then so it may be worth keeping that.
Of the five L4D2 ones I think we can reduce those to three or even two, one private and one public. The publics are normally fairly active but the private ones idle most of time.
The game seems to have fallen out of favor at the moment but there may be a brief resurgence when the next DLC is released.

Anyone else have any other thoughts or objections?
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

PC Specs:- Black box with some fans that go whirrr, a few lights, things inside that get warm, headphones, keyboard (a clicky one), mouse (with buttons and no squeak), disks (2-off SSD and HDD) and a monitor of sufficient proportions.

Nope, we had a quick talk about this and although there is a lot of activity on the pubbies, it doesn't actually bring us any forum traffic.

The new DLC will help revive the servers, as us veterans will want to play 'No Mercy' on L4D2, but we can definitely lose 2 or 3 of them.

I believe until very recently 'Chainsaw' had been down for about a month anyway.

Thank you very much for the feedback.  With your blessing then Snooks we'll reduce the number of servers to 2 as suggested above (1 public, 1 private).  We can easily open up more again if it becomes needed again.

Thanks again.

This has now been implemented and the Server threads updated to reflect the change.
