Hi all,

I am looking to get back into game and starting my rogue leveling for pvp at 85, I am just wondering if anyone has any advice on gear/spec that would be good. as i am pretty much a noob when it comes to rogue pvp/dps for heroics.

cheers

sheepy

not very up on PVP but i have heard that the rotation is quite simple

To be honest, I wouldn't really say there was a rotation at all for PvP, to be good you've got to be able to adapt to what others do, oh and have a ton of resilience these days which ruined PvP anyway :(

Yarena - 85 Night Elf Priest
Xiaa - 83 Human Mage

The best PvP spec nowadays is sub. About the gear, go for the crit bloodthirsty, being careful for the hit cap vs lvl 85. About the spec, you can try mine (Pitchblack) and see if it fits you: i've put all the talents on control-survivability, so if you want a bit more dmg, you should move the talents from waylay and improved recuperate to Puncturing Wounds (Assassination) and such. Keep in mind that in the start you're not gonna do much dmg, since the resilience going around is pretty much sick, however one of the best thing of a rogue is that you can choose your battles carefully. There isn't much of a rotation as a "playstyle" in PvP, and it's all related to how you want to fight your battles: some prefere to kite, others to control and blow cooldowns early for a fast kill, for example. Just try to experiment as much as possible, and be aware that's gonna be frustrating in the start, but quite funny once you start getting experienced.
About PvE, i suggest you assassination, and to follow the suggestions on the elitistjerks forum.

Rogue in pvp is easy to play hard to master. Tirk has put up a good sub spec mine is slightly different but he makes the an importatnt point. Most people with have high res already so your dmg wont be that great so going for survival would be your best bet so couple points in the Imp recoup is nice,i roll with that anyway.

As far as rotations go....Stun stun and stun abit more.......Get your bleeds up,garrote, hemo and (glyphed hemo). Stun, when a stun is on cd and ur against a spellcaster....kick... Vanish, rinse repeat....Keep recoup up...Keeps health ticking a dmg reduction and energy regen....combined with evasion makes you hard to kill!
CC....once bit better geared time to multi target :).....sap, gouge,blind.24 seconds of cc there....if they trinket out vanish and sap.
Shadow step and shadow dance....I tend not to open a fight with shadow step....Most people crap themselves when a rogues jumps on em,they will cc you then run 90% of the time....perfect time to then use SD and SS then ambush....with waylay this slows them and speeds you up with Shadow step..Most of them would of used a cool down....disengage blink etc so you now have 10secs or so to go to work :)
Melee....obviously these wont run from you unless they hate fighting rogues....keep em stunned and use dismantle...no weps they cant hurt you.

As tirk says there are no real rotations, just stun them and keep recoup up :)

I dont really play Pve any more with the rogue,i have an assasin build currently. Most use combat now, very simple to play and nice numbers! Hope this helps abit

Just to explain something to anyone new to the rogue class. I was partly wrong on my last post here, and i can add something more now that i have experienced something more.
About the PvP spec: if you check my rogue now, you may notice i've got ridden of all the extra control/survival talents and gone all out on dmg (mainly becouse i've got over 4k resilience now, and i'm a bit more difficoult to nuke down, even without cooldowns). This makes things a bit more complicated, but the dmg output, now that i have an acceptable gear, is decent. Of course there is the problem of applying/reapplying the crippling with the shiv, but i'm getting used to it.
About the PvE: the spec i'm finding more rewarding in terms of dps is combat atm (again, as you can see from my char) and it can pump up a pretty good dps once you know what to do. The only problem is that it feels more like a gimped warrior than a rogue, since it lacks of all the rogue-ish mechanics (no use of stealth, with the exception of the occasional vanish on full cooldown, little to no worries about poisons, just pure hack&slash).

Bellanie

ok time to revive this one! almost level 85 now:D should do it today and need some advice please. i am playing combat atm, but a little birdy told me there is a macro out there (TL) and that JAS you might know what it is:D wink wink.

I moved on from using any macros and now just control my toons via whistle's. Along the lines of 1 man and his dog....If i was go back to mortal methods

Quote/use 13

Tirkad

I thought the castsequence macro was made ineffective by some patch long ago with the macro random cast, because there were macros used to reduce levelling to one button (i've created one myself for my lock back in the day, it worked like a charm).

Treach

/castsequence is still a goer. Although I would recomend a change to the macro:

#showtooltip
/castsequence reset=target Sinister Strike, Slice and Dice, Sinister Strike, Sinister Strike, Sinister Strike, Revealing Strike, Rupture, Sinister Strike, Sinister Strike, Sinister Strike, Revealing Strike, Eviscerate;
/use 13
/use 14

This one does the same but lets you see the current ability (and tooltip) of the next ability to be used instead of just the top trinket icon with macro name as tooltip.
