The screen on this tablet is awesome and streets ahead of the Xoom.  But when you can get a 32GB Xoom for the same price as a 16GB Samsung and the Samsung has not have the SD slot, well I think the Xoom wins.   Versus the Thrive, still to be decided.

Saw the Samsung (still my favorite Android Tablet) side by side with an iPad 2 yesterday   Sadly I think the Android tablets still have a fair way to go to match the Apple product for polish and usability. While functionally Android might be equal or ahead of Apple in its ability to get work done the UI is far behind. Android on the phone doesn't try to match iOS for eye candy, it lets third party apps like Launcher Pro, ADW Launcher or GO Launcher do that. Maybe it will require one or more of these companies to produce a launcher for tablets. But at the moment when seen side by side I cannot see how any non techy consumer would pick a Galaxy Tab or Xoom over an iPad. We're geeks and so we look under the gloss of the UI but the great unwashed probably don't. Right now Android will sell cheap tablets to people who cannot stump up for an iPad, to the enterprise market looking to deploy large numbers of tablets which their IT departments can configure and control or to us geeky types.

I don't know how Apple do it but I still walk out of any  gadget shop I've been window shopping through secretly wanting a Macbook, iPhone and iPad. I know I won't like any of them and they won't work for me like my PC, HTC Desire and netbook do but I still want them. Steve Jobs is a witch and should be burnt or something :)

Sort of supports my suggestion that the Samsung is the better device in almost all respects but the Apple is the one that's going to impress if you only have a few minutes to play with one in the shops. The Samsung IS a better device but I'm sure it won't sell anywhere near as many units (especially when Apple panic and screw around with patent law rather than innovation.)

Samsung are definitely competing head on with the iPad with this device. But I don't think I like that approach. I don't want the thinnest tablet at the expense of expandable memory, straight forward USB and HDMI connection. Still not sold on getting a tablet yet...I thought I'd be so easily swayed, but they've all just come out too expensive and lacking features of one sort or another. I'm going to have a road trip with an Eee Transformer in a weeks time so we'll see if that changes my mind. Failing that January sales might sway me, with all the new models presumably coming out might be a good time to pick up a bargain.
