A Steam Prob im recently having

Hi guys ive not had much steam problems before but this one is rather annoying me...

Everytime i start Steam up and try joining a game it asks me for my CD key
And then states that i have no games installed in my Steam Folder, i click next and then its Done - no Install.

So my problem really is to do with Steam and it remembering things :/
Forgets what i have installed :| Steam keep sending me emails saying they have recieved my CD key succesfully my brother has only recieved this once when he first signed up..

Anyone have / had this prob and know how to get around it ?

That's a new one on me - I never had any emails form steam though, ever.  Have you checked the steampowered.com forums?
