Guys,

While I have always maintained that when getting the server off of the ground and there's no publics on, you can do what you like.

However, as soon as a public joins, I need the rules enforced. We want publics to follow the rules at all time. We also want them to have an enjoyable experience on the server.

If you have any questions please let me know in this thread..

thanks,

NF

I would like to add my voice to Naldo's concerns that he raised yesterday. Server rules

Not anymore as was seen last night.

Rule 4
Quote4. No Vehicles until Server Reaches 5v5 (this is designed to help seed the server)
Or
Quote4. No Vehicles until Server Reaches 5v5 (this is designed to help seed the server)
This is straight forward. When the server numbers are low, the use of  Armour will only turn the battle into a one-sided slaughter (in most  cases). This will hamper server seeding and may result in publics  dropping from the server.
In certain circumstances the use of quad bikes for transport may be  permitted. This is at the discretion of the Admin(s) on the server at  the time.
As you know i have ALWAYS gone with no Tanks (includes Bradleys) or Choppers.  I have been happy for people to use any other vehicle and it's capabilities.  I believe this is the way the other "active" admins apply this rule also.

Last night:
A comment/question for a newer dMw member.  "You're using a heavy MG, i though vehicles aren't allowed till 5v5".  I explained it was just Tanks & Choppers because of their over powered weapons when used against a small apposing force.  But he was, according to the rules, correct.
We now have large maps in the rotation and it can be very boring to run for a minute across the battlefield only to be taken out by one of the four snipers on the other side.
If we do let players use jeeps and boats then you have to let them use the weapons on them.  Trying to enforce a rule which says use the jeep but not the weapon on the jeep would be stupid.
If we say no vehicles at all then that should also include heavy MG's etc.  Running in the open is no fun with them firing at you.  Again however, can we really enforce that on our server?  I think not.

Player numbers changing:
Last night i admin killed a player for using the Bradley.  We had 9 players at the time and i'd Yelled three warnings.  He was very good about it, acknowledged his mistake AND said sorry.  However, within seconds of that we had ten players and I had to Yelled "Tanks open".
But, you guessed it, within a minute another player left and i had to Yell "No Tanks" again.
Now normally, if we lose just one player like that i'd let it go but because of recent events and a particular player on last night i felt i had to act.
A dMw said over TS (think i might have been poison) "That must be really confusing for the publics!" And i would have to agree.

Another example of this happened mid week, to me this time.  I’m attacking and in a Bradley.  Someone then says “We’ve lost a player, its 9 now”.  So I yell “No Tanks” jump out and get shot straight away.  A new player joins almost immediately and I say “Tanks open” upon which a defender jumps in the empty Bradley.
Now, I can see the reaction that will get from a public, especially if I’ve just killed him for not getting out.

How about a 3 minute rule? If the server numbers are wobbling between 10 and 9, waiting a couple of minutes to see if someone new joins the server is quite reasonable in my opinion.

WRT use of weapons in jeeps / boats when seeding the server, I don't think the weapons should be used. The vehicles should be for Transport Only. Difficult to enforce I know. However, if we all do this in practice, others should catch on.

What do you guys think?

I think you need to give a little bit of freedom with the no vehicles rule, if a player leaves & makes it 4v5 & someones using a vehicle then leave them to it untill it turns into a game changing situation, you can always just ask people to go easy on the vehicles as it's making for a crap game + if you are in no vehicles mode then I think that stuff should only be used for transport - but then it's kinda hard to stop the urge of wanting to shoot when you see something to shoot at.

TwoBad

What i've done in the past is just not worry if someone leaves or even two come to that.  If one side drops to only three players then i've said something, has always seemed to work for me.

I'll give the no weapon use rule a go but i'm not too sure how it will be received.

I've tried this a few times now when necessary and its worked quite well with players accepting it.

Then next question which came up was Stationary Vehicles, the argument is these are the same weapons which are on a jeep.  Personally i have no problem with them but what’s the "official" line Ninja?

Finally, UAV, i don't think this should be used at all when seeding.  Defending with 2 players v 3 attackers when one of them is using a UAV from a distance and getting hammered by Hellfire missiles is no fun.  So again Ninj, what’s your take here?

Both of these are a tough call. Stationary weapons are easy to take out. So is the UAV.

I'm 50/50 on these two. Perhaps call it like you see it? Feel free to tell folks to keep out of them. The official rule is no armour. That doesn't pertain to UAV and Stationary necessarily.

TwoBad

Yeah stationary weapons i don't have too much of a problem with, easy to spot and easy to either deal with if you have the right weapons or just avoid if you don't.  I think the UAV is different, with long range optics it can be so far off its very difficult to even see let alone take out and when you only have two or three defenders i think it skews the game play in the same way armour does.

"The official rule is no armour", doesn't the official rules state no vehicles hence our earlier discussion regarding jeeps and boat with weapons?
