Hi!

I want to apply for the raiding division of DMR. Now I know that you're not currently looking for dps warriors (according to the sticky at least) but I figured it wouldn't hurt to put my name up in case something opens up. Besides, I've almost reached the top of what I can get from the game outside of raiding, gearwise at least, so in a way it's a logical next step.

I could just go with "It'sa meee Garrit! :-D" but so many new faces have come to DMR since I left last time I figure it's best to fill out the form. So, without further ado :-)


Are you applying for a Raider position, or Social membership?
Raider Position

If applying for a Raider position, please tell us which evenings of the week you are available to raid and which evenings you cannot commit to attending.
There's no night in my schedule that's set for 1 thing on a weekly basis, basically free whenever. I am planning to take up guitar lessons in the future but that's a future thing, and will not take more than 1 night a week.

Who are you? Where are you from? How old are you? What kind of work do you do? Tell us a bit about yourself!
My name's Bob, I am 23 years old. I live in Utrecht, the Netherlands in a house with 3 pigs ehhh roommates, who never do their dishes :thumbsdownsmileyani . I'm currently in the final phases of my education: Master of Arts in New Media and Digital Culture at Utrecht University, and I'm working as an intern for an institute that provides courses and training on everything media-related (camera, director, social media, audio production, you name it). I am responsible for the company's social media presence. Basically it means I'm on Facebook/Twitter from 9 to 5, which is particularly boring.

What kind of internet connection do you have?
No idea, it's campus connection, but I've played WoW on it no problem so far :-)

What sort of frame rates do you get when playing WoW and is your computer current?
60? High at least, no fps lag whatsoever. I keep my computer mid/high end by upgrading parts every now and then.

How long have you been playing computer games and what kind?
As long as I can remember. Probably started age 6 or so, playing Dune 2 on my dad's old PC. I love all kinds of games, from tycoon/relaxing games such as Anno 1404 or Transport Tycoon, via RTS (Starcraft, Red Alert) and racing (fan of NFS series) to shooters like UT2004. But mostly I dig RPG. Diablo, Dungeon Siege (not III, it's ********) and of course WoW itself.

What kind of raiding experience do you have?
I started raiding in Vanilla WoW with Righteous, who were leading the pack on the server in terms of raiding together with Anything. In TBC that all fell apart and I sorta took a break. Played casually on and off during TBC. Came back fulltime in WotLK and joined DMR. Raided until half way through ToC, then joined Eluo for ICC. Had a blast but got a bit bored in the end and decided to cold turkey out of the game. Felt liberating for a while, but around the time Cata reared its ugly head the itchies came back, so here I am again. Levelled an orc warrior to 85, server transfered it into a Worgen on Aszune and well, the rest is history :-)

What other guilds have you been in and why did you decide or were forced to move on?
Righteous - fell apart in transition from Vanilla to TBC
Eureka - very short time but left due to too many hunters ( I was a hunter back then)
Prometheus - came forth from CC (Chronic Crusaders... or something). A bit similar to this guild in raiding style. Enjoyed myself but grew annoyed with TBC as an expansion and quit playing.
DMR - During WotLK I rolled with you guys and had a blast. At some point I wanted to up my game and DMR at the time wasn't enough for me. So, selfish jerk that I was I applied to Eluo when they had a spot for a prot pally. ;-) I hope no one holds a grudge because I didn't leave because of bad feelings or anything.
Eluo - During ICC I raided with Eluo. Felt great to be back on the top of raiding since vanilla, but after clearing all the content (apart from about half the heroic modes as I recall), I grew bored with the game again and quit. Gave my account away to avoid withdrawal but hey.. Blizzard's reach is long. Bought the games again and started a new account for Cata.

Do you actively play any alts that we could find you in in case we need to contact you?
Aye, but all are in guild already: Parvani - Hunter, Argharnos - Priest and Darbir - Shaman.

What are your plans for the game? In what way would you like others to know you? Tell us about your personality, and why you enjoy the game.
I'm a performer. I want to get the maximum out of my toon. That does not mean spending 24/7 playing the game, farming pots and whatnot (thank god that's not as needed as it used to be). That does mean getting the best out of my toon when I am in a dungeon/raid. So the best enchants/gems/etc., optimal rotations, situation awareness, all that.

Name one thing you don't like about WoW in its current state.
I've never been one to complain about nerfs (and never really felt at a disadvantage because of one either). What I do dislike is the homogenization of gear, especially the looks. A lvl 85 raiding warrior looks exactly the same as the next, save for a different tabard. We should be able to customize this loooaads more.

Why did you decide to play this class?
Ever since Clakz, a member of Righteous, posted a video of him PvPing with Might set and Arcanite Reaper, to a soundtrack of Manowar's Warriors of the World, I wanted to have a high-end warmachine with a giant 2H just cleaving my way through mobs leaving a swath of destruction and blood. I also love long walks by the beach and the calming aroma of green tea.
Really, I love most classes and there's no particular favor to any of them. Only dislike Lock and Rogue, although I can't really pinpoint why.

What do you think your class' role is in raid content?
Arms warriors as they go provide that nice 4% physical dmg boost, although I've understood there aren't that many physical dmg dealers in DMR. Still though, the MS debuff is handy in some encounters and with Takedown and Pummel warriors have some nice interrupts. With Charge and Heroic Leap we have great mobility and even Shattering Throw can be useful I guess. But mostly dishing out a good deal of DPS.

Comment on your build. Why did you choose it? What do you think of other builds of your class? Why didn't you choose one of those? (important question)
I didn't go with Fury because of the aforementioned preference for a 2H. It's a cosmetic preference really. As for the specifics of the build, I didn't choose Blood and Thunder (T1 protection) because I find AoE dmg to be too situational and best left to experts in that department. Instead I went with Executioner (T2 Fury) as stories of 1% wipes are quite common. That extra attack speed might just make the difference one day ;-) My offspec is Protection as I still love tanking. I am geared for that about as well as I am for Arms and it comes in really handy for weekly heroics for badges/gold, since it's ~10 second queues as a tank. I just wanted to see more than some giant raidboss' legs/belly/head/spelleffects when raiding for once.


What do you look for in a guild?
Depends on the type of guild it is. I can't stand strict regimes of no swearing, no matter the type though. I mean, it doesn't have to be a swearfest but getting a reprimande whenever someone slips some profanity in every now and then feels so pedantic. Anyway I know DMR is not that kind of guild ;-) Other than that, an environment where people are true to their wishes from the game. In a hardcore rading guild I expect to find ppl focussed on the job and performance, in a more casual guild I expect ppl won't get sweared at for wanting some slack. It's a scale really, I guess DMR is somewhere midway along it.

''Dead Men Raiding'' - What comes to mind when you see that guild name?
I dunno a bunch of skeletons raiding. Never really had a particular image in mind.

There are other guilds on the server, why did you apply to us?
I know a lot of people here, I know from previous experience that it's a fun place to be and I know their raiding style works for me.

Who do you know in Dead Men Raiding? How do you know them?
Long list. I know them from last time I was around ;-)

Have you read our 'what we look for' and 'philosophy' posts? What do you think of them?
I honestly think you should get them published.

A guildie says something you find offensive, what do you do?
I'm a smartass so I will probably come up with witty retorts that are annoyingly correct and nitpicky but not too offensive. That is, if the offense is directed at me. If not then I still tend to throw in some smartass remarks to try and break the tension. Or I'll just ignore it, depends on my mood.
