Having seen the bigger and more powerful android phones on the market, I thought I would plunge in for a 4" size screen to hopeful gain better usability for web browsing type activities. so went for the LG Optimus Black P970 as this was at the cheap (ish) end for this class.

I will admit that it can't compete with the impressive Samsung S2 phone, for starters this is a single core phone, so there will be some noticeable difference in speed, I am app fanatic and like the live wall papers and so far yet to see any real significant slow down (especially compared the my old GT540). It also has a smaller screen (4.3" for the S2 IIRC) but my thoughts that anything under 4" would feel just too small (well, I wasn't going to take any chances).

Only had this for a few hours, but here are some pro's and cons

Pros:
> A minor plus point, but it was well packed, nice box (the type you want to keep), so good start.
> New NOVA screen is excellent, bright indoors and outdoors with a good positive touch and responsiveness. Excellent colours, can't fault it.
> Light and thin
> Storage space not bad, but not great
> Price - around the £300 mark
> Widget / wallpaper / shortcut arrangement - nice menu and easy to use
> LG 'on-screen' utility, control your phone via your PC (bit gimmicky yes )

Cons:
> Still on Android 2.2.2, although update expected in September
> Back cover is fiddley and feels like you could break it just trying to remove it!
> Can't seem to switch between 5-7 home screens, this has 7.
> Battery drain - but is the same for all smartphone of this caliber
> charger is just a plug with a USB port, so having to use the PC USB cable (supplied) to do both jobs.

Not tried the camera or GPS yet, but wifi seems stable (more so than the GT540 which keeps loosing connection)

So far its a 8/10, I'm happy with it.
 Bring on the randomness!
Apparently I actually exist! Or maybe it was the drink?

I've never had an LG phone so this was a nice read. I'm on a 1 Ghz HTC Desire and have never seen any lag at all. I think all this dual core stuff is for the sexy 3D gaming rather than for running any traditional apps.
According to oldie the Samsung's back cover is made of tissue paper so flimsy backs are not limited to LG phones.
I think many phones these days come with a USB cable and a 3 pin plug combo so again nothing very specific to LG, we all suffer the same.

Sounds line a cool phone.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.
