Just spotted this at armaholic with good features for persistent game play heres an extract Description:
The Multi-Session Operation (MSO) is a reality-based game mode: it is a persistent mission simulating real-life warfare to the best of our abilities with ARMA 2's capabilities. Unlike hour-long single-session missions that restart when the players disconnect, an MSO mission can persist for days, weeks even. When you disconnect, your location, health, weapons and ammunition are saved for when you reconnect. Up to 4,000 enemy units could be out there waiting for you 24 hours a day. Most of the components revolve around realism, although its up to the mission editor what their MSO consists of.

i thougt Domination was persistant until the server was restarted? as enemys take back towns etc...

Yep Domination is persistent as are a few other maps I think.

Its a little more than persistence  if you have a read about the operations themselves they are all different with editable/optionable tasks and some clever ways to let other people know what you encountered and where.

Been doing some mso this week and its a little hardcore and very team reliant but very very realistic, heres a short briefing on mso,choose class which you keep and have to keep even when you rejoin as server remembers you and your loadout/score,all spawn at main base, choose what kit you are all putting in the containers [as in huge steel ship containers] that the heavy lift choppers fly in, this kit is sangin type base which you build to your own spec including sandbags,mgs.mortars,artillery etc etc. This forward base is your only hope of survival in a hot zone and may need to be able to defend repair and refuel everything you own for a long time.
Once on the ground where ever team leader thinks best in keeping with the towns/cities/villages and random objectives on the map, the objectives range from intercepting convoys to just going on patrol ?
Realism is done rather well with every single bad guy showing up as friendly until he fires upon you! in keeping with rules of engagement currently in place with most modern armies on this sort of posting.
Its not gonna be everyones cup of tea i agree but on a passworded server with the right squad its very good and very realistic. No addons required for server or client but i have recommended we switch our server ai to the fabulous @zeus ai when the editing guys are available again? Anyone seen Benny? PS ive tested the @zeus AI with insurgency as well which is one of our tougher modded missions and the gameplay is far far improved. Any comments welcome.http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=13336
