Hello all,

I was just thinking about the size of squadrons and return on the time investment in planetoid mining.

So we find a 75K Water Planetoid and think whoohoo we're minted. There are 7 people in the squad and we all get over 10000 water out of it. That's assuming you have 2 hours to spare and no 20+ packs of evil humans jump in and obliterate us.

Likewise, we get a 75K Tyllium mine and again we get over 10K each.

Now water is one thing, it's rarer than Tyllium and 10K is ok if you get plenty NCP action during the defense.

But in reality, I know 2 hours mining a nasty sector can get me 50K Tyllium. It can probably get nearly 10K water as well.

So what's the best way to earn obtain minerals and are planetoid mins good value?

We'll I had a though, what if we had 9 dMw guys online and we split into 3 squads and each time we get a mine, one squad takes it and we all defend it, then 3 guys get 25K and the others get their turn next or if we get 2 or 3 mines in a sector then everyone is happy if we have the numbers to defend to destruction.

I don't think a mine depletes any faster the larger the squad owning it but someone may know this better than me (?).

I think we need to be more savvy with our squads to maximise return, it's great fun mining with 7+ people in a squad but this thing is about getting the ships for the wing to pwn the galaxy isn't it? :norty:

Yup Lib and I were discussing this earlier and we also concluded that smaller squads were better for a number of reasons. We thought maybe a maximum of 4 or 5. Then the next group can go off and find another. If there are problems then there is no reason why help can not be called in from another squad.
Also one or possibly two people in a squad can go off mining and rush back if needed.
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

PC Specs:- Black box with some fans that go whirrr, a few lights, things inside that get warm, headphones, keyboard (a clicky one), mouse (with buttons and no squeak), disks (2-off SSD and HDD) and a monitor of sufficient proportions.

I had thoughts on this too following last nights fun.

The first mine we found which had constant NPC fighting with multiple ships turning up gave loads of xp and although the tyllium mine was not massive it was loads of fun and quite challenging with us all being blown up at some point.

The second and third mines were right next to each other so loads of resources gained but with very little NPC action and with a full group this might not be as big a return as first thought.

However in the Wing (guild) there are still quite a lot of low level players who might well struggle to defend a mine if all under level 10 and this being the case I think it is leading at the moment to larger squads. I agree when there is little NPC action on a mine area that perhaps some of the ships be sent of to mine or help others complete dailies (like planet stations etc) in the area as it can get a bit dull just waiting for NPCs to turn up.

One thing I am not quite clear about yet is if say a group of 9 dmw players go to a particular region and find a mine which is then started can say 3 of the players move onto another sector to find more mines but still benefit from the resource gain from the first one even if in a different region?

If you start a mine either individually or as a squad you can go anywhere and even logoff and get the loot.
