You

Are you applying for a Raider position, or Social membership?
Raider position
If applying for a Raider position, please tell us which evenings of the week you are available to raid and which evenings you cannot commit to attending.
Any evening is fine from 20:15 game time. Not fussed about how late I have to raid till.

Can you and will you speak actively with other guild members on Teamspeak and in guild chat?
Absolutely, I think it's key for all raid members to communicate via a microphone rather than typing.
Who are you? Where are you from? How old are you? What kind of work do you do? Tell us a bit about yourself!
My name's Rob, I'm 17 and I'm from the Isle of Man, currently a student at Shrewsbury School, studying Spanish and English literature with the hope of being a future journalist. I am a passionate fan of football and I also like to relax by playing a range of games including WoW. I particularly enjoy raiding as I receive a great deal of satisfaction after progressing on boss fights, with fellow raiders that share the same ambitions and passion.
Do you have a stable internet connection?
My internet connection is absolutely fine, I can't say I'm too technical to know the correct specifications, but I never go over 150 MS ish in a raid.
What sort of frame rates do you get when playing WoW and is your computer current?
My FPS is around 50-70, have never experienced any slight difficulties whilst raiding as a result of computer performance.
How long have you been playing computer games and what kind?
I've been playing computer games for around 10 years now. I started off when I was young playing Red Alert 2, and Tiberian Sun. Two fantastic games at such a young age which my cousin introduced me to. I then moved on to playing C&C Generals as well as Zero Hour offline and online and I still rate it as the best RTS I've ever played. Other than that, I've played a bit of Starcraft here and there, MW2 and MW1 on a PC (as I think the standards are higher on the PC network than the consoles). I also have a strong affection for the Football Manager games. If I'm not raiding, or have run out of ways on how to improve my characters performance outside a raid, I'll probably be playing this!
What kind of raiding experience do you have?
I'd like to say I have an expansive raiding experience, which has been mostly achieved on my warrior which I believe I have raided with some of you on in the past.

What other guilds have you been in and why did you decide or were forced to move on?
At the end of Vanilla, I left inspire in search of another guild which started as "The Legendary". Here I raid leaded and managed to clear KZ, with Halbarad being my assistant GM. After this, myself and Hal both joined Mea Culpa, and as far as TBC is concerned, the rest is history. In WOTLK, after some time in Mea Culpa, I joined Show Your Allegiance. I had some fun there and did some great content in Ulduar, in a fun atmosphered guild, but my time ended there as the officers changed a lot of policies, which resulted in some members, including myself to leave. I then joined Dominated to join up with an old raid leader of mine whom I knew from Mea Culpa. I made the step up here to 25man content and got as far as Vezax before taking a short break. Dominated then began to crumble in early 2010, with a large contingency making the guild Slackers, which I joined up with. Had a great time at Slackers, being part of the first 10man group to kill LK in the guild whilst he was on a 10% buff, before going onto to do 8/12hc on 25man. I made it fully aware that I intended to have another break from WoW at the end of the summer, which led to me leaving Slackers and then joining Defection. In Defection, I joined up with some old friends of mine and became the raid leader instantly. I led the guild to 11/12 HC content on 10man and 5/12 HC content on 25man, before I started my break. I returned for the start of Cata, where I did a few boss fights with Defection in BoT and BWD. I then proposed to the most elite members of Defection to server swap to horde, to reunite with some of our members from ICC in order to set up an elite 10man raiding guild. This commenced, but was short lived, as we all decided to join the Zerg in order to do some 25man content. I absolutely love the Zerg up to this moment. However, I had to change my class for the first time in 6 years, to fit into their new raiding system. I rolled an ele shaman and had some fun on it. Most memorable moment was probably when I ranked on WoL after downing Ragnaros for the first time on 25man. However, I have decided to quit raiding as an ele shaman, as I quite frankly find it boring. I prefer to heal, but the Zerg can't find a spot for me at this moment in time and that's why I'm looking for a new guild.
Do you actively play any alts that we could find you in in case we need to contact you?
stotty@manx.net is my real ID. Think Hal has my MSN.
If you are a cross-server applicant, name someone from your home server that can vouch for you.
Lichborne should be able to. Jekhár as well.
What are your plans for the game? In what way would you like others to know you? Tell us about your personality, and why you enjoy the game.
As I have said earlier on, I get a great deal of satisfaction out of progressing on boss fights and end game content with people who share the same ambitions and passion as do I. I feel I add a bit of humor and personality to TS and I'm a very easy going person. That is not to say that I'm a "slacker" when I say easy going. I am able to take constructive criticism when it's necessary and I'm also able to hold my hands up when I know I have committed a crime during a raid. My plans are at the moment, anticipating 4.3. One thing that made me quit elemental and thus give up my raiding spot in a guild that is progressing on heroic Ragnaros is as a result of the hotfixes which have made the game, quite frankly, very easy. So this is why I've got resto as I see it as a more enjoyable role and a challenge.
Name one thing you don't like about WoW in its current state.
Wish I saw this question as I typed my answer above, but as I said, one thing that made me quit elemental and thus give up my raiding spot in a guild that is progressing on heroic Ragnaros is as a result of the hotfixes which have made the game, quite frankly, very easy.

Why did you decide to play this class?
My warrior was surplus to requirements in Zerg, but they still wanted me to raid with them, so I levelled my Shaman quickly, and with a little help and boosting with gear, I fitted into their raiding system.
What do you think your class' role is in raid content?
Heal people, restore mana when the raids mana is low. Important cooldowns such as Spirit Link to help through heavy damage modes, of which they are many.
Comment on your build. Why did you choose it? What do you think of other builds of your class? Why didn't you choose one of those? (important question)
To be honest, like some of the other resto Shamans I have spoken with, I go with my gut. I intended to be raid healing, so for this I went for haste as chain heals and healing rain are long casts. Healing waves are pretty slow to when you want to just save mana but also apply a sufficient heal when you know there is time before another attack will hit the raid (and also if the raid is spread out so chain heals are pretty poor- and if people don't look to stand in my healing rain :@). I don't look too much into theory crafting, as I have always thought resto Shamans roles are to heal the raid. I have never seen a resto shaman assigned to a tank alone, as a Paladin seems to have the dibs on that one. Shamans are pretty weak on tank healing as the Tidal Wave ability isn't up all the time, and Shamans have pretty slow heals, thus suggesting they'll struggle with tank heals and won't be able to keep up- unless they stack LOADS of mastery. But as I said, I think stacking haste generally benefits 9/10 raids compositions. Please note that I will change my Earthliving glyph if I were to be accepted as it isn't as important on 10mans as it is 25mans. Right now, I'm looking for a stronger healing trinket without having to purchase the DMC as I always have the tendency to have one drop for me just after I buy one :(.

This guild

What do you look for in a guild?
Progression, commitment, honesty and enjoyment.
''Dead Men Raiding'' - What comes to mind when you see that guild name?
Based on my past experiences with the members I have listed that I have met above : hard working, determined, knowledgeable and based on the name, it sounds like everyone here has a sense of humor.
There are other guilds on the server, why did you apply to us?
I'm up for 10man content. Had my fair share of 25man content in Firelands, and I like having responsibility, and I feel like I have less of this in a 25man. I have also applied to you guys as I know some of you are very good players, based on my past experiences.
Who do you know in Dead Men Raiding? How do you know them?
Halbarad I have known for a few years on the game. Also JAS and Sheepeh through my experiences with Mea Culpa.
Have you read our 'what we look for' and 'philosophy' posts? What do you think of them?
I really like those 2 posts. They are totally acceptable and I value guilds that have the primary objective of being mature and having fun at the same time. In addition, I like the fact that you treat all your guild members with respect and like human beings, rather than just characters who do their jobs.

Annoying questions

A guildie says something you find offensive, what do you do?
Cake or Pie?

Cake, just because I prefer it.

Note: You may notice on my gear that I am currently wearing 3/5 pieces of the Elemental tier. This is because I have just respecced from Elemental. As a matter of fact, these pieces are fine to heal with, but I assure you they will be replaced with the Resto tier ASAP.

Hope you enjoy reading my application.

Rob.

Thanks for your app, give us a few days to have a chat about it
Maybe there\'s something to be said for being different. We are who we are. What more could we ask for?

Sharpfang

this name seems familiar somehow....

Syoles

Yeah, this was my warriors name in vanilla when everything in WoW was a bit of a blur, times have changed however ;)

TeaLeaf

Hi Syoles.  We'd like to have a chat with your about opportunities in DMR, is there any chance you could jump onto our TS3 server tonight or tomorrow night please and have a chat with one of DMR's officers?  We might be in a different game channel, but our names should be nicely visible in the list of who is on - if not then just jump into one of the channels as ask for one of our WoW officers and someone will point you at the right person!

Details of the TS3 server are found ehre:
