AMD Opteron 90 nm CPUs should sample in a few weeks ready for a launch in early 2004.  Reports are that they are on track to produce just 45W or so of heat.

45W is a staggeringly low figure when you think that Intel's current Prescott 90nm CPUs are having real trouble keeping under the toasty 100W mark.  A naughty rumour currently circling in a vulture-like fashion proclaims that Intel's next generation CPU cooling solutions for the Prescott will also be able to store 12 x 2 litre bottles of coke, 2 lbs butter and a week's supply of chilled meats. ;)

The Inquirer has details here.
