BF3 Server Rules

Guys,

We need to lock these down and add them to the message rotation. Can I get your thoughts on:

1. No spawn raping the uncaps - even on Rush, once it's cleared you can't go back.
2. No bunny-hopping - this is a standard on most of our games.
3. No sitting in the original uncap or spawn and using mortars. - as this encourages spawn raping, I think we should impliment a rule that encourages folks to move out of the uncap and then set up motars. - on Rush, motoars from subsequent uncaps is reasonable but should not be abused.


In addition, I'm not convinced that we need to limt vehicles in BF3. I'd like to hear your thoughts.

3. Yes, this needs to be sorted.  A few nights ago someone was sitting right at the back of the spawn area on Grand Bazaar Conquest using mortars.  Players were complaining over ts and the player concerned was saying "but it's the only thing i've go which i can play".  I eventually made my way over there (dying several times on the way) and took great pleasure in RPGing them.  At which point they complained i was spawn raping!!  No fire should go in OR out of unacps on conquest.  Subsequent uncaps on rush is tricky but within reason yes.  However, if attackers do it it should be very limited, ie one player, and that player can be fired upon.  Armour should defiantly not sit and fire from there but advance.

4. Don't see any need to limit vehicles provided both sides have some.  Could even be argued that we have no minimum player limit for vehicle use if that is the case.

I'm happy with the rules you put above NF.
Bout the vehicles dont put limit on,it takes the fun away:)

What are we actually classing as bunny hopping these days? a single jump, multiple continuous jumps? It's not something we've really need to think about since the old cs days.

Well, jumping around a corner & bunny hopping are 2 different things really.

A common glitch quake players could exploit due to poor coding, (back in the older games) that made them harder to hit, as well as allowed them to move faster. Similar glitches are strafe running, and "skiing"(Tribes games 1 and 2) These all move faster than simply walking due to either intentional or unintentional means.

Well, banning someone for using a game exploit & banning someone because there doing something you don't like are pretty different.

Agreed Rizzy but when on cod 4 and cod:bo and cs people have been picked up on it. But if it is allowed then so be it. I just don't think it should.  And I would follow GL wishes.

Yes, Agree on all of these Ninja. I would suggest that the "no spawnraping" rule be balanced by "no firing from the uncap" as well - sounds good.

I had a complaint from Duval on Thursday just after I'd seeded the server - the old "players < 5v5 = no vehicles" issue - he was demanding (on chat and TS) that vehicles be abandoned several times during the round as the number of players fluctuated above and below 5v5, with 6v4 at one time because of players quitting/joining.

My understanding from BFBC2 was that it's a case of "we've started so we'll finish" - so if we started using vehicles with 6v6, if numbers drop you just carry on until the start of the next round.

While in the case, the round began with publics using vehicles and only 4v4 players (two dMw's and two publics a side), so I did post a warning - albeit ignored, by the time I'd alt-tab'd to the admin tool, the sides were 5v5 anyway.

I was reluctant to kick anyone as we haven't stated on our BF3 server rules "No vehicles until teams reach 5v5" and from your comment, I'm guessing that this isn't a BF3 rule as yet?

IMO, the weapon / vehicle balance is not so one sided in BF3 as it was in BFBC2 and in BF3 anybody with a stinger or SMAW can make a tank, plane or heli mincemeat if required. So no, I don't think we need a vehicle limit in BF3.

Thanks for the input everyone.

@RizZy - Bunny Hopping includes jumping around corners.. I'm sure that Tobias has sorted wikipedia for you just in case ;). Also, dMw have frowned on bunny hopping since the early days. In BC2 it wasn't necessary as there wasn't the close-quarter combat the BF3 offers on some maps.

@Arithon - Glad we're on the same page on the Vehicle rule.

@ All - New Rules coming up! For dMw members, please give three warnings, then slay, then kick, then warn then post here if it continues. I expect that by the end of the week the rules are in full effect. For pubbies, after the kick if they come back and do it again, issue 24 hour ban. This is done by issuing the command "@tban playername 1440" the 1440 being the number of minutes in a day (24x60). You do not have to be logged into procon to do this, you can do it from any chat command (J,K,L).

Ninj, can we have some public guidance on this one please.  Last night we had dMw members who are not admins telling publics to get out of vehicles "because those ARE the rules". When i entered the server it made it 5v5 and we started using vehicles at which point it dropped to 5v4 and the same ppl stated the "rule" again which, due to the recent events i felt had to be applied.  If you recall we had a discussion on this for BC2 just a little while ago and it was decided that in a situation like that we would continue to use vehicles in an effort to try and avoid confusion.  As soon as the vacated vehicles blew up the server went back to 5v5.

 Also, just out of interest, how come you and KNKD have reserved slots on the server?

Wee bit confused. I know it was Duvel that was banging on about the vehicles the other night. However...

There is no limitation on vehicles. As long as they're not spawnraping or firing into the spawn with them then I see no problem.

WRT Reserved Slots - I was just testing but I don't recall giving KK a slot. I do not think it's working at this moment in time. As soon as it is, I will make sure that all of the admins have reserved slots and I'll be adding our dMw roster to the "whitelist" which means they won't get kicked to make room for a reserved player.. :D
