LFS is in decline due to the lack of the promised update leading to a lack of racers, during the week we have an empty server and thursdays race has become an hour of driving instead of racing, so unless someone steps forward to take over doing the admin for the one hour race, the BF1 race on March 15 will be the last one hour race, the server will then be available for whatever combo you want for as long as you want it for. All dMr have admin rights to change the combo over.

As for a good nights racing, we are going to have to go out to more popular servers instead, Seany knows all the good ones and we can meet up on Teamspeak to find each other or if you don't use Teamspeak, LFSworld has a buddy finder.

Please comment if you agree, disagree or have other Ideas.

This basically came about after myself and Ben talking on TS after last Thursdays race.   We have, in the last few weeks, had some good races, but mostly it's been a bit of a parade.  To me this isn't that much fun, I find myself thinking some times during the long race that I'd rather just be having some short races with you guys.

The current format of picking cars and tracks is ok, but some combos are (obviously) more popular than others.  I think it could still be fun to have a Long race on Thursday for popular combos, UF1, XFG etc, they still draw a crowd, but for unpopular combos I'd say there is no point in a long race.  It's hard to know what to do, the format of our server is well known and is a great idea, just in LFS's current state it is not really working that well (from my point of view).   Even if we do scrap the long race on Thursday I think it would be worth keeping it as a "community day" where we all try to make an effort to come along and have a few races together.

Cars and combos don't really matter so much to me, my biggest attraction to online racing is racing with a decent sized grid (of course it is also nice to race and chat with my DMR mates :) ).  Some times its hard to predict what combos will be popular, I think if we get a particularly popular combo, it would be no harm sticking with it for two or even three weeks, and then changing.

Anyhow, that's my thoughts on it.

That is a shame to hear indeed, it was almost a tradition trying to keep Thursdays free for the dMr race, but I can fully understand the decision of course. After so many years of running this format it is getting tougher to find combos not already driven 10 times and harder to keep interest high for the racers. I do however think you could have done a bit more advertising for your 1 hour races in the lfsforum, there is a race calendar and the league race sub forum for a reason, maybe it would've attracted some much needed new blood.

It would be nice to see the 1 hour race tradition going on in some form or another, it was always nice hopping on to the server and getting trouble free clean racing no matter the combo.

Similar to what troy says, the server is a good place to be, only good drivers that are clean and fair will race there. Maybe a bit of advertising and moving the 1 hour race to a weekend may help? More likely that people would be home/willing to race without the thought of work in the morning.

Admittedly due to my own comitments I can't get to the 1 hour races on thursdays (I dont have admin rights either :narnar: ) but I do feel we should at least give it a go to make it popular. Was hoping the skins would help a bit with the advertising, but I'm struggling time wise to make them. And if we wouldnt race on dMr's server where would we go? Theres nowhere else that doesnt require silly points systems, or have a bunch of aliens or halfwits driving around.

There has been some very popular combos of unusual setups (RAC at WE springs to mind). Maybe a look at popular combos on LFSworld to try and think up some ideas might work. I do think the 1 hour race is a bit of a "you only know if you go there first" kind of thing. its nice in a way as it keeps it a bit exclusive, but it also means noboyd sees it most the week as the server is empty.

Not sure if any of that helps, but just throwing my thouhgts out there!

Reading the thread title I expected a discussion about other sims vs LFS, but it seems you still want to go with LFS.
So here is my suggestion:
Set up a tournament for a few weeks with only one car class. Pick good tracks for the class in question. Allow a couple drop weeks.
Skip unpopular combos. I think sticking with the same car for several weeks would be good.

Just to add that I cannot do any organising and admin for events due to real life stuff, so if anything needs setting up and administering then someone needs to commit to doing it, this includes Thursdays race if someone wants to keep it running.

Also are there any dMr members that can't see this forum? :http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?184-dMr-Admins

Lameduck

I can admin the Thursday race so don't worry about that Ben. Real life stuff wont allow me to take part (inability to sit on me arse for more than 10 mins) but I can admin.

Unfortunately I cant  confirm my attendance this Thursday (8th) as I'm back in hospital again so cant guarantee that the buggers will release me in time. Any takers to admin?

Hi everyone!

Little off topic first...
I came here to see if there's a thread for last nights FZR@BL1R combo... I didn't found one, so I put my apologies in this thread instead. I was looking at the replay and saw that at the race start in T1 I cut into Lameduck's path sending him to a spin and last position :(. In the heat of the race I didn't notice the contact at all. I'm very sorry about that Lameduck.

On topic:
Reading Jamin's opening post, I got worried that you'll ditch the event altogether. Thursday's one hour race is always something to look forward to (Even if I seem to lack consistency novadays, when I don't race so much.). It's nice to see that you have backup admins now when Jamin is busy. I'll promote thursdays' events on cabbie forum too to get some more people join.

I like Sean's idea where popular combos could be on for several weeks.

No need to apologise Mauni, as I did not allow for the slippage on cold tyres @ turn one and did the same some 30 laps later on perfect tyres with Sheepy.

I've got no doubts that the event will survive in modified form and I also like the idea of extending the use of good combos. We would be grateful if you could remind
the cabbies, as we always enjoy their company and racingl :)

Yeah - not nearly so much fun with the smaller grids these days, but so much of LFS is suffering from the lack of S3.

But it is still fun for me - I'll keep driving LFS no matter what ......

dMr has been my only racing for a long time now and can't imagine needing anything more for me - every week a new combo to play with and fun blokes to race with!!

So , I like Sean's idea of keeping on popular combo an extra week or trying to guess at good combos.

Maybe do 1 car for 4 weeks - but different track each week ?? Maybe a mixed race - 2 or more comparable cars??

Anyway, lets see who survives an hour with the BF1 this time :woot2:

I'll try to be less of a stranger on the forum too :)

Might even have to try to get TS to work :norty:

Sry to disagree Jamin, but while it may seem LFS in general is on the decline, DMR seems to be doing fine. Had great fun with Sir Duck today, as well as yourself and a few others.

Combos...that's the ticket. Who ever thought up the UFR with 23% @ KY2...it's just plain fun. Thursdays have been difficult for me these last 3 months or so, and I miss all of yah, but real life first.

Just keep getting creative and DMR/LFS will do fine, it's always a great place to race.

Be Well

Heya Ant, cheers for the comments :D

The continued popularity of dMr is down to Seany stepping up and trying different combos, Lameducks admin powers, CrazyR1 server seeding every night, the high quality of the rest of the dMr team racers....

....and of course the excellent regular guests we get on our server thanks to the legacy of what Doorman created.

The UFR with restrictions was the other DMR team member blindfury46s suggestion and is loads of fun :thumb:
