Invest more in Vitality and resistance stats. It'll become more important than your DPS in the higher difficulties.

DPS is very important though the actual weapon is still the main source of it.
I was slightly conservative health wise while leveling and my goal health at diffrent spots were as following( if I remember correctly):

End of Act2 NM:   10k
End of Act3 NM:   15k
End of Act4 NM:   20k
End of Act2 Hell:  25k

I am currently running around with 30k Health in Act1 Inferno. I stopped stacking Vita as much when I started Hell but I basically stayed at about 700 Vita through Hell and just got increased health by leveling ( Vita gives more health based on level, it is 35 I think at level60). I also changed my build at Act2 endboss in hell after reading incgamers and Battle.net forums. So if any of you are playing Demon Hunter and didn't know Smoke Screen doesn't just turn you invisible but invulnerable as well. So that with increased duration to 3 second and preparation with healing rune and you are basically invulnerable for 12-18second depending on if you can get a 3 activation off before preperation.

Here is my current build. Almost exact same build can be used at level 30.

Mods you really want on gear other then primary stat and vitality.

Rings, Amulets and Gloves - Increased Attack speed
Rings and Amulets - Damage though IAS is more important since it scales. Also damage is better if you have fast weapons.
Head: - Socket for an Amethyst

I haven't gotten much resists but I assume you will also want to increase All resistances. Also armor is quite nice to have no matter what class.
Even though you want as high Armor as possible it might still be better to search for lower level items, I got an insane quiver from a vendor around level 30 that I am still using and I doubt I will find anything close to it until I start crafting the level 58 quiver with 5 random mods.

Edit: Oops, this was meant for the other Diablo thread :D

Ah, but the DPS tends to drop very fast when your corpse is chopped in pieces and smeared out all over the floor by a horde of angry demons ;-)

If you take a look at the guy who killed Diablo on Inferno, his stats offer an interesting point as well: He's got almost no extra health and is sitting at 6500 hp at Inferno Act IV. His resistances however are through the roof. Obviously, as a melee character you're going to want to reconsider all the DPS bonusses and take a more serious look at vitality cause you'll be hit a lot more. As a wizard though, like in D2, you should rarely be hit.

the reason why he doesn't have any health is because wizards have a skill where if the hit would cause more then 35% health damage he takes 35% damage instead. So he intentionally removed health and stacked regen instead so he would be almost unkillable. If you have 6k health with alot of regen you can easily max your health between hits.

Methods melee were running with 45k health for the monk and 60k for the Barbarian, though not sure what buffs were involved.
I have also been watching Kungen's stream where he is playing HC Barbarian. He is currently in Hell Act1 with about 750 Vita and 900 Strength. I would also like to point out that every melee should be using 1hander/shield later on since that increases survivability alot. But as Kungen has been saying DPS is very important for him since he doesn't dare fight blue/yellow packs without his cooldowns ready. So if he doesn't finish the pack in the first 7 seconds he has to wait 30seconds for reengaging the pack.
I fight in much the same way, use cooldowns then kite waiting for them to be available again.

Meh, to hell (see what I did there?) with numbers, sure there are optimal builds but this game isn't played on paper, not like WoW for instance. A lot of the survivability is based on if you can outsmart mobs.. actually dodge attacks rather than letting stats do it for you. It's why you could take a fully MF geared Sorc into Baal Hell in D2 and live to tell the tale with relative ease: Who needs survivability stats when you can just not get hit! Sure it takes a year to kill him but it works! :-)

That is a bit extreme example of course (and every single point of a D2's sorc still goes into Vitality after a bit of Strength for armor requirement), but my point is.. he finds that he's dying a lot -> he should put more points into Vitality (or other survivability stuff). It's what I did and it dragged me through Nightmare (well, almost, haven't finished Act IV yet). I'll see what I find most comfortable once I get to Hell and beyond. And I sure as hell (oh god, it's too easy to make these!) won't play a 1H+Shield ever. And what I love about D3 is that it will work too!

I'm playing wizard and just completed nightmare and as been said - vitality is key. I have around 1200 int and 500-600 vitality and even then I could use more. Trust me , u need it !

Dead dps = no dps

Tutonic

Guys - please make a new thread if you want to discuss tactics.

This is supposed to be a Battlenet player list.
