Hi Folks,

Mum dropped her phone into water this week and I need to replace her Android Samsung Galaxy which she had no clue how to use with something that does what it says on the tin.

I'm sure not everyone is smartphone mad, can I have suggestions please for a really good mobile to primarily use for calls and texts, no internet or gps needed.
Cheers, Bert

Maybe a Samsung Galaxy Xcover...
Not the phone with most bells and whissles... but she can drop it into all the water the she wants..
Just bought one for my dad in law last month, and hes overly happy with it

I'd revert to a good old fashioned 'classic' Nokia handset.   Usually extremely reliable and easy to use.  Perhaps something like a Nokia C2-01?  You can probably find older variants out there too which will be even closer to your spec requirements.   Always very solid pieces of kit though the classic Nokias.

While we all can laugh at Nokia smart phones and their dreadful Windows mobile monstrosities they do make really decent hardware and their dumb phones are pretty decent. My mum has a Nokia C1 or C5, basically one of the simple candy bar phones with a physical keyboard, an address book and not much else.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

I have a Motorola Gleam flip phone, after my old trusty Motorola V3 started going strange after so many years service I wanted a similar phone.

Basic phone, nice buttons, bluetooth, huge standby and talk time £60ish and I don't think they ever locked them to networks.

I'm not sure how old she is so offering her something like the following may be a little insulting.

My father-in-law is very technophobic and this just makes calls and sends texts. All with next big and easy buttons.

Thanks guys, and Penfold, I showed her the bea-fon and she asked if it comes with a white stick LOL. She's 63, she did ok with the Android phone but never really used it for anything more than the basics and never got the hang of the touch screen. I'll go on eBay for a C2 or something I think.

What's wrong with the Nokia Lumia range? I know it's Windows mobile which is rubbish in comparison to Android. But if she never used the features then that's not a real loss. It does have a 97% user satisfaction rate.
