Tox bought me a RP and I am wondering what to do with it.

I need to get some cables and a power source sorted 1st, but what then?

I bought one, and after one day i have yet to use again.... Rather overrated, but i can see good use for 3rd world countries as a v cheap computer.

Media a server, a nas as in the interface.

I've got one too, it's a great little linux box that I run headless and access via putty for testing out scripts and configs before using them on live servers.

I've had a play with the media side too and it works really well on a HDMI screen but does only play media files that it can access so for me it's not something I'd use as I have the PS3 for that.

They do now have the store open for getting apps easily so this should make it more useful, not had a play myself but looking through the store there looks to be lots of great stuff on there.

Cake: Four large eggs. One cup semi-sweet chocolate chips. Three/four cups butter or margarine. One and two third cups granulated sugar. Two cups all purpose flour. Fish shaped ethyl benzene. Twelve medium geosynthetic membranes. Three tablespoons rhubarb, on fire.

I have 2 of them running xbmc to play movies stored on my NAS. The newer builds are pretty stable (I've been using Openelec and Raspbmc) and other than some tweaking to get the audio working through the TV it's been easy to do.

Got 2 which i use as Media center pc's, both running Raspbmc, works brilliantly, planning purchase of 2 more to be used similar as a Sonos setup, just for movies ;)

I love the Idea behind the Raspberry Pi but I'm struggling what I'd use it for...I'd love to get one but not sure what it's use would be:g:

It's going to be the heart of something else... rather than a full computer in it's own right. You have several inputs and outputs. The Pi ends up being whatever you attach it to. A network and a hard drive full of music and it's a media server etc.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

I've set mine up as an XBMC to start with. I'm going to write some games with the kids to show them how I learned to program.

£30 for the device. £2.99 for the case. £9 for the USB Network and the 8GB SD card was free (O2 Priority moments ARGOS £10 voucher in Dec)

So £43 for an Apple TV that works all the time...

kregoron

changed the configuration on one of mine, so its acting merely as a extender now, using dvblink.. its now able to handle all my tv channels and acting as DVR system :D

The latest openelec builds are superb for xbmc....

If you want some ideas on what to do with your pi then start reading this magazine http://www.themagpi.com/ its free so no excuses :-)  Also for those who fondly remember the 80's style computer mags will find the magpi rather familiar
