It's difficult to tell with Bernie exactly how much schmaltz he is layering onto what he says, but this one has a ring of truth to it and was published on 2nd April, not 1st April.

It's yet another reason why you should make an effort to go to the F1 Grand Prix @ Silverstone this year, to hear the last of the V8 engines before the sewing machines take over

Personally the sound doesn't make a huge difference to me. It's nice waking up in your tent in the morning and knowing the cars are warming up, but the racing itself is what makes things fun to watch. Formula one always used to be about pushing advances in technology into the car industry and that has gone in recent years since the car designs are so different to modern cars, but changing the engine towards something slightly more similar to a sports car engine might bring that back. I'm excited by the electric formula series which would be racing in the hearts of cities which would mean tight street circuits, and the technology might work its way into road cars in the coming years.

It might be a bit of a change but I'm sure we'll adjust. That's not a reason to miss out on the current engine noise though as they do sound lovely. Check them out while you can.

I think the sound is a huge part of it.   Try watching it on TV with the sound turned off and it's bad enough.   Watch it at the circuit without the sound shaking you and you're missing a huge chunk of what is F1 imo.    An electric series leaves me totally cold - silent F1 cars going round a circuit?   No thanks, let them develop the tech, but for the love of god don't let F1 become silent.

Fixed that for you :flirty: :narnar:

Defo needs V8's! Was an interesting read, I remember Bernie saying years ago that the sound of the cars is very important, thought he may of been one of the catalysts behind the idea of smaller engines, suspect he wont be in F1 for much longer though

Apparently I actually exist! Or maybe it was the drink?
