Huge crash in the first few minutes of the race saw Allan Simonsen lose his life as his Aston Martin fish-tailed and went left whilst the track went right.   Onboard footage from the following car shows he appears to have lost traction as his left wheels got onto some blue paint just outside the white lines delineating the edge of the circuit.   Great shame.

It's unbelievable that paint choice can mean life or death in this day and age. There was some nice coverage on Dutch TV but I missed the first hour.

It is always terrible news to see someone lose their life in a sport like this. You can say that they know the risks and that they do it still because they love it, but it doesn't make it any easier for friends and family. Always a tragedy.

I believe the race still continued even after it was announced (no Le man's race have ever been stopped as far as I know, even after 55)

 Bring on the randomness!
Apparently I actually exist! Or maybe it was the drink?

It was quite a shock that Allan died from that crash, the later crash (the Lola 30 car) looked much worse, I mean the guy tore the car in half and survived. My thoughts go out to his family, friends and fellow racers. R.I.P
