And this is why the realm seems quiet and these cross-realm features have just come in - and why we see more and more real-money items for sale.

Blizzard WoW revenues down 54% in last 7 months.

I'm not at all sure it's anything to do with payment methods, it's all about content and the fact that a game that is almost ten years old is just running out of ideas. I'd much prefer to pay one single payment a month rather than  lots of little payments with no actual upper limit. It may help their bottom line for a while but to me micro payments and/or F2P tend to signal the end of a franchise (i.e. Warhammer),  or it's status as niche (i.e. Like LotRO)

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

Aye, I was not implying that it was payment methods, merely that it confirms our subjective opinion that the realm is quiet.

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

But the question I'd be interested is is why. If it's due to failing interest and a dying franchise then F2P and micros transactions do seem to be the last attempt at some revenue before the game goes away. I'm just hoping that a complete new IP or ground up renew of the WOW franchise is in the pipeline. But sorry to take the thread off on a tangent, it's been a long week and I'm tired

As revenues drop they will come ever closer to the point where micropayments and the F2P model make more sense.   At the moment it's a game which is 10 years old so something will happen eventually as it becomes ever harder for new players to start and to reach the now current maximum level at which point you can enjoy the 'current' content.   Even with shortcuts, none of us relish levelling a new toon to Level 90, it's just boring and a grind.    The gaming market needs a new mold-breaker imo and I can't wait to see what it turns out to be.

I think  wow has had had it's day.  It has for me anyway.
I had a great few years playing "met"some really interesting people and had some laughs.

There is nothing worse than an ex smoker.

The addiction of wow is gone and now the thought of sitting ignoring members of my family for a game, well sounds stupid at best.  Arranging things around raids not speaking to people on the phone...

If and when I ever fix my PC I will go back to cs. Hop on hop off.
