Getting Ready for BF4

OK folks...

The Beta is on and we need to consider the move to BF4.

Considering the core of our BF3 players and those that have bought BF4 already, I think the move to BF4 is enevitable. Those in the BF3 player base that have not bought it yet, will most likely do so in due course. Also considering the large number of our regulars that have agreed to buy it (or already have!), I would say we've all but adopted BF4.

There's a couple of areas that I need your help in:

1. Server Host. Who do we go with? Is there anyone else in the UK besides Multiplay?

2. BF3 Server Message - Arithon, can you pimp the fact that we will be moving onto BF4 on our BF3 Message Rotation. I'll ask TL when the BF3 subscription runs out.

3. Server Admin Tools - Are we staying with ProCon or moving on? What else is out there that will work for us and indeed, work on BF4?

4. BF4 Admins - I think that it's time to clean house. At the moment, we have three active admins. Arithon, DuVeL and myself. This is no offence to the other admins. Do we have enough? More importantly, do you guys still want to admin?

5. Forum Badge - Got Any Ideas? We should start that process now.

6. BF4 Admin Sub Forum - This can be created in due course. Let's not worry about it at the present moment in time. I will "unstick" the existing threads and only keep the BF4 referenced ones for now.

Ignore the flak about EA. This is still a cool franchise and we need to take it forward.

We might be changing forum badges and removing some of the flexibility of choice, to benefit from a cleaner & more consistent look across the forum.   It's currently work in progress, but clearly we'll let you know once it firms up and we have a template available into which all existing games will have to be dumped to produce the new suite of badges/icons.

I think the flack for EA is thoroughly deserved, I also think BF is a great game.   You don't have to pick one camp or the other! :getmecoat:

A 32 slot server hosting in London (which had very low ping on the BETA) comes out at £23.57 per month, which is paid for annually (inc VAT) is £226.30

We don't need the 10 user mumble voice server, but the ProCon layer means we don't have to worry about setting up the admin side ourselves.

There's also a 20% discount for pre-ordering your server - a discount you keep past the first month (if you pay monthly).

I don't know what our BF3 server costs, but this seems like a good option. Other hosts seem to be around the £25pm mark for a 32slot BF4 server.

Price seems reasonable (slightly cheaper than BF3) but we have no experience of them as a game host.   The free debranding is a cost saving as you usually pay extra for it and the procon layer is a time saver.

Pricewise, annual gets an automatic discount, with the code the let you pay monthly and get the same discount as annual.    Quarterly or half-yearly gets less than the 20% discount which is a wierd business move for them!

We'll be picking up on BF4 during the Admin meeting at the LAN on Friday afternoon.
