I've had a quick look at some of the hardware requirements for Star Citizen and haven't really come to any concrete conclusions. In the new year I'll be buying a new PC with this game in mind and I would like to get the most out of it.

I've got a budget of about £1k and i've already got a suitable case that will fit just about everything I'll need for this. I've also got a reasonable PSU that I think will easily be able to run the needed hardware (I can't say for certain the exact wattage - but its around 900-950). I could use some advice as to what people think I should be looking at. I'm sure they'll be a post somewhere on forum detailing hardware purchases, but this is more of a theoretical projection as to what will be the final requirements specifically for Star Citizen. I'm sure there are other people that will be (maybe) thinking the same thing as me.

What I've considered so far is the AMD vs Intel debate. I've got a lot of friends that don't rate AMD, but I'm not one of them. Almost every CPU I've ever had has been AMD (hailing back from the days of the Cyrix processor). I've been looking at the Mantle setup that will be emerging soon - the MD of Cloud Imperium games (who are making Star Citizen) has suggesting that it will make heavy use of AMD products, and was at the launch party of the Mantle project. If you don't already know - Mantle is an API which aims to compete with openGL and DirectX.

TLDR:
Aside from other hardware considerations, should I be running with AMD and a very new AMD graphics card - or go CUDA?

Thoughts?

You'd be posting up your proposed spec in this thread then those in the know can help you.

... the (guessed-at?) hardware requirements appear to state that a current nvidia 480 is required and a 770 would be only "medium" at point of release, and 8gb ram is the minimum now. I think my old laptop might be next to useless for the unoptimised alpha/beta. Buying anything in the next 6 months is unlikely and buying just for this might not make sense as it only really comes out in 2+years when shinier newer stuff will be out. At a glance I couldn't see a release schedule vs expected system requirements - did I miss the page?
