2014 marks the 18th anniversary and the transition to adulthood for the Dead Men Walking gaming community and what an amazing journey it has been from those early days of playing counter-strike via a dial-up modem!   If you did not know much about how dMw started then I would urge you to take a quick detour to this only slightly out of date post which tells the story of how it all got started in an appalling biblical-esque style, whoever the author was should be shot! :getmecoat:

For a community like ours to survive 18 years is a seriously impressive achievement and a massive vote of thanks to all of you for contributing to dMw and supporting us through the years.    Here's to another 18 years and the hope that we'll all still feel young enough to still be gaming - and that perhaps our children might be gaming here too!

I realised recently that for half of that 18 years I have been playing WoW, ergo WOW is half-legal!   Wow launched 11th February in 2005 and I've been playing it and loving it ever since and can blame another dMw member that some of you know from LANs, FATAL, for getting me hooked on raiding.

Until I discovered raiding the most difficult things I had ever done in WoW were the 15 man Stratholme instance and the 10 man UBRS parties (yes, back in vanilla they really were 15 & 10 man party instances).  I remember that FATAL whispered me one Wednesday evening and told me about this '40 man' thing called a 'raid' and 'would I like to come along'?   He then added the 'but...' and told me all about having to be 'attuned to core'.   I was so intrigued that the next day I sought out the starting quest (killing dragonkin whelps in Burning Steppes) and progressed through the entire quest chain in just one afternoon.   I completed the lengthy quest line and became attuned to Molten Core just fifteen minutes prior to the raid start time.

So my first raid evening found me as a pug member of the joint Silver Oak Guardians and Danu Nephilimer raid - they'd started raiding a couple of weeks before and had killed the first two bosses in Molten Core.  So after participating in killing Lucifron and Magmadar for my first time (and being scared witless in my blue gear), that's how I found myself looking at Gehennas.    That night I found my love for raiding and I never looked  back since then.  We killed Gehennas and I was the last person alive (39 others were dead) and I got the killing blow on Gehennas about 0.1 seconds before he slithered over to melee-splat me into the ground!    The nerd screams, the cheers and the rush from being part of that team is something I'll never forget.  So thank you FATAL for that timely whisper! And thank you Gehennas for letting my slow-travelling frostbolt reach you before your fast-travelling fist reached me!

Nine years is a long time though and I now find that my passion for the game has gone.  So I'm going to let my subscription expire and re-focus my time on attending to dMw admin things (which I have probably neglected more than I should over past few years) and playing a broader range of games within dMw: my list currently seems to rotate through Counter-strike (some things in life have to be constant!), Arma3, BF4 and World of Tanks - and of course, I'm feeling a lot of love for Star Citizen and can't wait for the Alpha/Beta access to this new space coop-orientated MMO and its launch in 2015.  (go on, buy a ship package with Alpha access, you know you want to!)

DMR is nothing without its members and WoW is nothing without being part of a great guild, so thank you everyone for your personal contribution towards nine amazing years of Warcraft.  I'll continue to support DMR and the DMR Council as much as I can, but I don't anticipate being online much if at all, but you'll still have to put up with me on Teamspeak, at LANs and throughout these forums, so my apologies in advance for not disappearing quietly!

dMw & DMR have been a great place to game, so thank you for making it so special.  :worship:

You just made Blue Monday so much worse!

I could make a long list about things youve helped me with, but it would take to much time!

Thanks for all the help and input. Thanks for all the time youve put into WoW and RGT/RGW to help this guild and its members.

I hope you will come back soon!

Ahh yes some fond memories of vanilla wow! For me it was the best with a real sense of achievement, where as now its fairly easy imo.

Anyways it will be a sad loss from you ingame bud!

Many thanks for all you did for the guild and the help you gave me stepping into a raid leader role and for all the RL support you have given me also :)

Obviously will catch you on the forum and at the LANS, who knows I might even venture away to another game myself!

Hmmm, TL I'm not sure how I will understand this, 1 can somehow understand what you write, has also played WOW since 2005, has been active during this period in 4 different guild been an officer and GM in one of these guilds but never enjoyed the game as much as during the period when we raid together, the joy of the game during this period I would love to assign you, you have been the glue that has bound the group together, always though I probably several times ****ed've got a kind word and a smile that has made us all feel secure on we were on the right track, your attitude and your overview will be missed, but also hope you browse and maybe get the urge to wow back.
Take care of yourself and your family, thank you for everything.
