Actually it's $2.39 as there's $0.40 tax as well. That's still £1.43 a month which is very cheap.

That is impressive but I think Dropbox is a better interface and way of working personally

To be honest it's pretty academic as I get 15gb with Google for free and that's about 10gb more than I need. Still it's good to see someone shaking up the market. Dropbox have been overpriced for a long time and seem to rely on a loyal customer base being willing to pay more. Along with their grubby T&C shenanigans and the loss of business hit they took, this move by Google might get them thinking about price?

On the other hand, from our previous discussions, you also use Amazon Glacier, so you do use more than 5GB :P

For me, it depends on what I want to store.   I use 7GB on my personal GDrive, circa 100GB of business data and several TBs for my media collection.  I was considering upping the Dropbox to 100GB to dump business data into it as an additional protection (it is already backed up via local & cloud software), but Dropbox do not currently allow a personal and a business Dropbox on the same PC (however this is due to be added 'in the future'.   GDrive is an alternative way of doing it, still has the problem of not supporting multiple accounts, but is a darn sight cheaper.  

As to the interface, I only use the one in File Explorer, so both Dropbox and GDrive look identical to me!   I can't remember the last time I had to log into the web interface.

Amazon Glacier is by far the cheapest backup at one cent per gigabyte so about 1/10th the price of Google. And the storage is unlimited. But it's an archive service. You have to  manually upload files and it takes up to four days to get the data back plus it costs more to retrieve the data. It's great for archiving old stuff you may never need i.e. financial records, legal documents or for me old photos from years ago. (yes Penfold I still have those pics of Queen Elizabeth Gate, Hyde Park Corner.  :-) ) So I'm not sure if that counts as cloud storage? But if you're looking for somewhere to dump stuff and forget about it then Glacier is hard to beat. My 7-8 terabytes cost me about £0.06 a month!

Right now I have everything (files, financials etc.) in Google Drive. What I don't have is a live  backup like Crash plan, Carbonite etc.

Although I just remembered I have 25gb of free storage in Microsoft Skydive! To much space! :-)

I've installed Google Drive and am uploading my files.

Is it just me or is there no folder structure? It lists the folder and files alphabetically but there doesn't seem to be any folder structures in place?

There are folders and folders in folders, basically whatever you want. maybe uploading to Drive defaults to adding files to the root folder? I have all my stuff organised into different folders. I sync with desktop Drive and tend to manage files on the desktop and then have them sync to the cloud, although you can manage stuff in the cloud and see it sync back to the desktop as well.

I've just upgraded my email to Google Apps for business so now I get 30 gig or space plus the 15 I get with my standard Google account so I'm well sorted :-) For £33 a year Google Apps is a cracking deal, if just for being able to run email in the best email system out there....

I have a folder structure on my PC which I then sync to Google Drive. When I access Google Drive it just list everything alphabetically.

However when you click on a file it does give you the folder structure in grey above and you can then use that to go back to the root folder and look down accordingly. It would just be nice as with others such as Dropbox and Cubby that the folders are shown and documents are contained therein - unless I'm missing something of course.

There is a list on the left under the red 'Create' box' that runs My Drive, Shared with me, Starred, Recent, Bin......
Just make sure My Drive is highlighted and you should see folders. Sometimes the view defaults to 'recent' and then all you'll see is a long list of individual files. Might help?

Tried these and still think Dropbox comes out of top in terms or easy, function etc - although on not on price.

I did have a look at the Dropbox for Business. Unlimited storage for $15 per month per user which would be attractive. Doubly so as it also sits alongside your personal dropbox.

The only caveat is that it's a minimum of five users. would anyone be interested in buying in for one of the extra licences if I signed up?
