A bit of a puzzle for the clever people out there..................

When i logged into battlenet this morning my wife was playing wow. Most impressive as she was out shopping at the time and her new name was "bvcnbvcmnbvcnbvc".

Ok shes had her account hacked and I start to deal with the customer support ... we got it all sorted and the world is all good but.....

The question is how did they get details of her account.... ??

She deals with cyber crime so shes red hot on security anyway strong passwords / malware checks ect

Its a dead account not been used for over 2 years.

Its only her pc she used to play

Shes not one for dloading crap

What scared me more than anything the hacked account has been used to buy the pre order expansion £44 and a few pets and mounts another £50 ish through the (ingame store). It makes me wonder how many more games i have that could potentially be used to skim cash years after you stop using them

She has another account on a different website using the same email and password combination of the b.net account.

Or, Phishing.

Its not phishing shes not that daft most of the time  .. Shes got different passwords for everything she registers with. Shes OCD on stuff like this too.

Thats why im so stumped as to how it could be done

Authenticator attached to the account?  My account is dormant but I left the authenticator attached for security.  No authenticator leaves the account open to more attacks than otherwise, even just brute force.

You don't have to be daft to get caught in phishing.  Also, noticing the account being used now doesn't mean that the hack is fresh.
