I have to agree with Hunter - AVP2 is one of the greatest FPS games I've ever played.  Not only was the game level and structure pitched just right, the atmosphere has never been bettered in any game imo.  Walking along as a marine to hear those shrill cries of an alien is truly terrifying and being a pred and stalking oomans with that "heartbeat" audio from the films is too cool.

It also had possibly the best potential for multiplayer longevity (CS aside) with the possibilities for "weighted" wars (2 preds vs many marines, small team of marines vs many aliens, etc) but unfortunately it never seemed to get picked up by the majority and the publics just became DM which the game isn't suited to at all :(

I loved AVP1 as well, and even managed to complete all 3 species on medium difficulty without cheating :) One of the toughest games I've ever played if you were a marine.

But AVP3 is currently in production :)
If I wanted you to understand I would have explained it better

I have it lying unopened on my shelf here, I got it free with a grahpics card and I've heard its sooooooo scary I've not dared install it. I'm a bit of a wuss that way, behind the cushions watching a horror film type :D.
Cheers, Bert

I was lent it, installed it, played it in the dark once, unistalled it with the excuse it was too dark.....my dicky ticker couldn't take it. I'll try it again though, on the projector.

I think sadly that it's complexity was it's downfall.

CS is a game that can hook a player from the start, as basically it's a very simple idea. Players enjoy their early experiences and can move on to develop TCS style play, which fully exploits the strength of CS.

AVP2 on the other hand is more complex in structure and plays badly if games are not set up correctly and balanced properly. Most players won't fight through the initial poor multiplayer deathmatch experience. They drop out and never get to the stage where they can form organised teams and finally enjoy the real strengths of AVP2.

It's a shame, as I'd love to play some of the more complex scenarios but as Squeeky says, the servers are either empty or full of deathmatchers  :(

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

yeah i see some agree with me and that is good , i also want to tell the fans of AVP2 that on Hardcore dificulty with the marine is imposible to finish the game and with  the alien as well , only with the predator i managed to win . so play on and take care everyone :)

AVP2 is SO good!!

There were lots of times I waited all day for the evening to fall and then play the single player modus. Man, did I scared myself a few times!! There even were a few times that I shutted down my pc and went down to my parents and went watching tv. LOL, the game is really brilliant!!

Especially the start of the Alien. Facehugger > Snake-like-thingie > Drone....OMFG did I love eating that belly of that guy!!

PERFECT!!!

Dunno, why I never went playing it online actually....You guys brought quite a good idea :)!!

Cheers!

AvP2 could have been alot better for me, the 1st game I ever played online was AvP & the speed of it was just insane, runnin round as an alien in pitch black vs 5/6 marines & scaring them all half to death or desperatly trying to evade a preds plasma cannon & get close enough to attack them is something i'll never forget, AvP2 was all just to slow for me & seemed to run so badly online it was unplayable to me. Thinking about it I might have to find AvP out & reinstall for old times sake.
