With HTC and Sony competing for the marketplace this could be very interesting!

I think most people will wait to see what the specification looks like before they dive in. I am looking for a minimum 1440 rez as 1080 does seem to cut it as you get too much of a screen door effect on the 1080 screens that close to your eyes as the pixel density is just not there.

Exciting times.

I balk at the term 'date' here, and consider it more of a firm target.

With the other competing products slated for release by the end of 2015, Oculus really have no choice but to up their game and finally bring something to market.

If they don't, they run the real risk of losing the accolade of being *First* and, worse, the possibility of not becoming the de facto peripheral.

Im excited for all of these devices and plan on getting one when the time comes, but I can't help but think that Oculus have dragged their heals a bit too much and have thereby dropped the ball on this.

I have to agree.

Also setting up of the oculus to work well can be very tricky. Its a long way from plug and play for your average gamer. Solve the resolution, clunky driver setup and take my money Mr Oculus.

The thing with the res confuses me. I was under the impression that they could get the high pixel density and res easy enough, it was assuming everyone has a graphics card that could support that res at 75Hz was the problem.

I also think the popularity among the dev community will reveal the winner.

Facebook just stole Valve's 2 leaders in this area (and Google's as well) but Facebook have no content that can compete with Valve, they don't work with gaming dev and publishing companies as heavily and neither of the 2 have any success in delivering popular hardware, even Oculus.

I still bet on Valve being the winner if they can get HTC to give them quality fast. In the end a standard is what is needed and it'll be an Intel vs AMD or VHS vs Beta but this time around it'll be the software that decides the winner, my 2p worth.

Whatever the end result/winner is, I'll say wait until it becomes mainstream.

This might be another HD-DVD vs BluRay thing.

+1 from me.    Plus, I really like my eyes.....and there is too little research on the long-term effects of these near vision systems imho.

Yep, that close to eyes is another issue.

We were always told to stay as far away as possible from TVs and monitors, although CRTs did have an effect on that.  Not sure if future technologies might change things, however crossed eyes might be an issue.. if that's even a possible side effect.

Stay away from the TV or you`ll get square eyes!

I doubt you keep your devices an inch away from your eyes, so we currently don't know if there's any repercussions by doing so.

It's a wait and see game.

It has the same effect as screens 3 ft away from your eyes on a desk. You can trick the eye to see depth of picture. I will say for sure that I could feel my eyes adjust to distant objects on the headset n'p'uts brought to the LAN.

Pre-orders open for a May delivery and $599 is the price tag. A little more than I expected. Then it becomes £499 for UK customers and then 699 Euro somehow in NL. What the %$%^&£$!!!!

Clearly Facebook don't have any idea about exchange rates.

$599 - That's £409 + 20% VAT (£81) then £30 P&P + £9 penalty for not being American, which comes to £529 ($768).

And yes, I've bought one.
