How to lose $15m without doing anything

This is a sad tale.  A young man due to be selected in the 1st round of the NFL's annual draft which would have rewarded him with a contract worth at least $15m, probably more.   Then on the eve of the NFL draft, you get hauled into the murder investigation of an ex-girlfriend.  Your draft stock (value) plummets, as does the value of any contract you could sign - yet you've done nothing.

The caveat is, we still don't know who murdered who, but that's the problem with our system: mud thrown will stick and 'innocent until proven guilty' doesn't count for anything in a contract negotiation.

Quite a sad tale, with a slightly uplifting ending, of how doing nothing can end up costing you money.
