On Windows 7 i used Microsoft Security Essentials, ditching AVG long ago.
Windows 10 has a cut down version of this which i don't know if it gives enough protection.

What do you guys think?

I don't want to install AVG again as it was a pain in the arse with constant updates etc...

I am in the same boat as you in this I was told to not bother with antivirus but I feel I need to get it and not sure what one to get

I use Panda + Malwarebytes, and a good dose of common sense.

Well I already got the common sense but thanks for that, never underestimate a human. I ain't sure what good and what's not like norton for example

I use Windows essentials too, but use a hell of a lot of common sense.

When it comes to anti virus in today's world I refuse to pay the rediculous amounts of money for annoying anti virus pop ups that occur when I knowingly have just installed something that I know is legitimate.

Just be at one with your PC and keep an eye on what is running in the background and what processes are running, is everything running as you would expect?, is there anything that looks suspicious in your system tray etc etc....

I'm sure there are good anti virus solutions out there that do the job but (touch wood) in my many years of gaming I have never had a rig that has been subject to a virus attack......or anything that looks harmful

It's probably down to me being ocd with the general housekeeping of my rig, so it takes a bit of effort to keep your eye on things

Just my :2cents:

Hi Sparko, I am the same it was just that security essentials was cut down and I wondered if it was good enough at this time.

I have been told to avoid Windows essentials one as it misses too much. I don't know if that is true but I went for a combination of Avast and Malwarebytes.

That's precisely where I am at the moment too.

I still use Nod32, un-intrusive and it hasn't let me down yet.

Most security breaches these days come from good old fashioned social engineering, knowing what that looks like and how to defeat it is the best way to keep your machine secure.

Also consider Bitdefender Free, uses the same award winning engine as the best in class Bitdefender Anti Virus, almost zero footprint, complete fire and forget and completely free. Combine that with the also free Windows Firewall Control app and you have a solid solution.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

Nod 32 for me as well, had it 6 or 7 years now.

Any ideas of AV for Windows Server 2012?

AFAIK many of the 'free' AV solutions (including Microsoft Security Essentials) are desktop only, and don't support the Windows Server OS.

ClamWin seems to be one of the few free solutions, but I can't vouch for its effectiveness: http://www.clamwin.com/content/category/3/7/27/

If you're willing to pay, I'd recommend Nod32 - it's about £30 a year.

I have ESET Smart Security.. I didn't think it worked on WS 2012 and that I'd have to buy a different version...
