Cargo wise, the numbers are a pretty good guide as to how your ship will store cargo and a competitive quantity. But something to bear in mind is that protecting that cargo will always be a cost. I can see us quite quickly forming convoys which will mitigate much of the flak from pirates.

I was doing some research the other day as well. Using the same logic as cargo units to other systems you can see how they'll shape up. The carrack for example has an awesome shield system but lower armament but its in the shape of turrets. We also know from the description that it will be well armoured too. In a pinch I think it'll make a mean cargo runner. Just not much bite.

Quote from: Dexterous;408250By the way, what is the dMw attitude to shooting down ejected pilots? Obviously I don't mean shooting down civilians but I'll give a scenario as an example.

As far as I see it, you won't hear pirates scream in outer space.  Mincemeat is the way to go.

Space whales have to eat too you know.

Legitimate civilians would be another story, but they wouldn't be legitimate if they open fire first would they?

Key Quote from Smilo's Link: "If you don’t manage to eject in time, or someone blasts your ejected character (which carries a harsh penalty if you do this in “civilized” space)" - There was no mention of doing this in uninhabited parts of space etc.

Thank you for the clarification!

A gogd point, and one worth noting.  In my bloodlust, I had temporarily forgotten about the punishment for pod killing! :) Although it should also be noted that in some areas of space, such things will not be detected automatically and need to be reported by survivors in order for there to be a consequence...

grab the surviving pirates, stick 'em in prisoner pods and flog 'em to slavers or to the authorities or however that mechanic will work? :flirty:

So back to cargo :D does anyone know if it's like Elite where you buy your own cargo or can you ship other peoples stuff for a cut?

If it's the first it might be a while before you can afford to fill up your hold.

Regarding Pirates, I hope there are plenty of ppl willing ot play that role, otherwise I'll be bored escorting you truckers.

Both cargo options will be available as I understand.   And a quick scroll through the orgs on the RSI website shows plenty of pirate activity, so I doubt you will be disappointed when out in lowsec.

One thing that may be a downside to the Carrack being a cargo ship is the pods were originally build for medical modules, engineering modules etc. These will most likely be removed and replaced with cargo pods to get the max efficiency.  Not a big loss but stops it atleast being a "one ship does all" situation. Although the guns on the Carrack aren't great, they do look well placed.

Not sure what speed the Carrack will hit in relation to other ships. Has any one seen a "guesstimate" based on sizes, weight and present in game speeds?

I would classify buying your own cargo and shipping it under 'trading', and shipping other people's stuff as hauling; but, yes, both will be in the game.

Just as a quick heads up: the Starfarer will be hangar-ready later this month! :)

makes total sense :) nice to know you can make the most of the bigger ships then.
