I know a couple of us already have a Oculus DK2 and some have pre-ordered the Rift.
HTC Vive pre-orders go live in 7 days. Anyone picking on of these up?

It's priced at $799, and should start shipping April 1st.

Same problem I have with the oculus I'm afraid...

I am waiting for all of the models to see the light of day, and for the teething problems be ironed out before taking any expensive plunges.

What Ben said sums it up.

Also interested in the AR MS might offer, the one the world is not yet ready for.

VR remains a niche enthusiast market for the time being then.

If I was to buy it would be the vive, if I'm paying a load I'd want top specs and support from valve is good. I won't be able to buy though until I upgrade my PC :(

what deterres me is the price of the vr headsets i mean u can buy a second pc for the price of the headset and then you have to have a gfx card powerful enough to run it, without giving u motion sickness.

It's not just the price tbh.  It's also first gen tech, multiple platforms, and there is very limited game support.

I would give them at least a year before taking the plunge and buying one.

The one attraction with the VIVE is the purported relative openness of the SDK.
Just as Valve are pushing Vulkan to be the rendering API of choice over DirectX so that games can be cross platform, Valve is also going down the open route with the VIVE to ensure it's published VR games stand a good chance of working across all headsets.

There is also the competition factor - every VR headset maker wants or already have a games store like Steam.
In the ideal world, GOG would be my preferred gaming store (no DRM), but I'll take Linux supported gaming in preference as Valve are pushing.

That being said, I agree with the others that it's too expensive and 1st gen problems I'd rather pass on this time.
Besides, I need to buy a Pascal card when it comes out as my GTX770 is underpowered for VR.

There are reports that it will cost around $800 USD <---- Same price as the Oculus with Touch controllers.

Yeah, that's where I got the just short of £500 price from, about £477 when I checked (exchange rate for GBP is obviously pretty poor right now), although they are not currently taking orders for it.

i almost bought an occulus recently, but my main problem is mainstream vr games: elite, sc, the thing i ask my self, is it worth it for the time i would use it?

I still agree with the consensus that it's a early niche technology. I bought my Oculus for Elite and there's no shortage of games in VR. My biggest issues is it simply isn't comfortable playing for over an hour even though my Oculus is super comfortable to wear. The visual feeling is straining my eyes. No nausea just I feel it's not doing my eyesight any favors.
