Just ironing out the details bros, and after some final discussions I'm sure we'll have something to post about soon :norty:

I've noticed a drop in activity a little bit back and haven't seen many people on so if I'd loose my stuff, no worries. I might drop in again if there's this new map on to have a look.
Survivor of LAN V, VI, VIII, IX, X, XII, XIV, XVI, XVIII, XX, XXIV, XXX, XXXII, XXXIV and XXXVI so far...

can we transfer characters across? Not bothered about resources, could we save the map (if at all possible) and make it available to people to download so they can play it locally?

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

Chaosphere

I'd be totally against transferring characters across. The appeal for me here is a clean slate, not just for some of us or in some aspects. I'd love to try the game from the first step with no one higher up helping and no safe places etc.
All our Gods have abandoned us.

Liberator

Don't worry it will be a full wipe and fresh start, thats already decided.

Afternoon folks. Is there any more news on the plans at the mo? I'm playing modded minecraft in its place but I'd much rather spend the time (when not overwatching) poking scaly beasties with you lot :)

An announcement of our future plans will be made this weekend(ish).

Please bear with us :thumbsup2:

Chaosphere

Sounds good Pen :)

Looking forward to it, but always important time is taken to iron out any kinks.

...........

Don't want it too kinky :flirty:

Thanks for the update Pen! indeed it is important to iron out servers before going live huh. You can leave some kinkiness in tho, all that leather aye!

PRO TIP

If you want to play on the centre come tuesday, and haven't already, DOWNLOAD IT ON STEAM!!!

Bit of a no brainer but I discovered myself today that you have to go to the game's DLC page and opt to download it - it ISN'T and automatic thing

Chaps, I didn't see the point in opening a dedicated topic for this and decided this was the most appropriate place.

So I've been playing Ark since Friday evening and so far with plenty of hours to kill I've enjoyed it. The risk vs reward and crafting is fun. The grind is monotonous. Level 13 now.

I'm at the crossroads of whether to continue playing or not so this is important.

What I'm struggling with is the idea that I have to login every day to put berries inside a Dodo to keep him alive and he's the first, smallest least hungry tamable character which means later on it'll be like daily grind obsession nightmare. How do you guys cope with managing multiple dinos? Is there a trick like a food hopper or something to install in your base or is it as I am finding, a complete daily grind?

Secondly, I've also been used to games where I play more closely with other people, (Elite in a Wing, Warframe a team of 4, Naval Action a Fleet of up to 25 players) not just having some advice on TS (which is always appreciated) but actually in the game together and able to work together, protect each other, turn up when there's a problem. Ark is less minecraft and more alien isolation online and I feel having only seen 2 people so far in the game (PEN on day 1 and Gorion yesterday) it's not a team based game more a "get a bird" then craft for yourself game as far as I can see and I really don't like the lack of teamwork.

Lastly, the games I play I earn items and I own assets which cannot be taken from me. Ark feels like a single player game on a shared server where if I take my eye off it for a few days I'm gonna be back to square one and I don't see the point of that if Point 2 does not exist (i.e. the teamwork fun part). Maybe it's just because the South Island is populated by new players and we all can't protect ourselves far less each other from a lvl 20 Carno. Perhaps we need a mix of new and experienced players mixed in together?

Anyways, these were my observations and I would appreciate your feedback.

Cheers,

Albert

New players tend to spawn on those islands as it's the safest but you don't have to stay there.

To solve the problem of feeding you need to learn the feeding trough and keep it topped up with berries and meat. A bin will keep the dinos going for a few days and up to a week. Once you have a trike or another creature, berries are collected enmasse and are not a hassle to forage for. You'll collect 100's in a couple of minutes and they'll last in the bin for a week or so. Meat goes off slightly quicker.

Regarding the teamwork this is a hard one. Some people like to play solo and some play together. People also level up as wildly different rates so have different needs. I disagree that there's a lack of teamwork as every day people zip off to help others with a tame or build or if they're in trouble.

I'm a teamie so myself, Oldie and Sulks have a shared base. Armitage is also just over the water. I think you've just been unlucky when you've been on as normally there's 6 people on and sometimes more. We team to do certain things. Last night Whitey and I did a cave run together and Oldie and I tamed a couple of birds.

I'd suggest moving towards us. You're welcome to join us in the ruins where there's loads of space. You can then build your base (or not if you don't want to as it's not needed for survival) and join us in our expeditions and tames. We'll also join you in yours. Downside is that you'll have everything you pretty much need which will take away from the initial survival aspect but upside is you won't need to be a hunter-gatherer any more.

If you're going solo then the early levels are a grind but once you have a couple of dinos then the game expands exponentially. It's more fun building together and playing together and that's what we tend to do.

Have a think and we can get you over to ours if that's what you like or there's other places very near which would make nice bases if you'd like to build your own spot but be near us. We'll come and help you build of course and we can certainly kit you out with anything you need. It basically means you're skipping levels but that's not an issue so long as you're aware of it.

Have a think. I would suggest hanging in there whichever route you go (solo / joint) as you've seen little but a beach and the map is a large beautiful place.

Good to know there is a larger scale way to feed the animals. Gorion and I were helping each other out yesterday but he couldn't build near me as we are enemies in the game apparently so he had to start building a bit away making the prospect of sharing a base impossible. Do we need to create our own clan to share more resources? Or has he just not been made part of the Beards?

I'm not keen on jumping in on already advanced operations as you say I lose the fun of the initial setup and leveling. But I did need the reassurance that there is a more efficient way to keep the animals fed.

I'll stick with it through getting a safe base build for placing animals into.

As a matter of priority we need to make him a member of the Beards. That will make you friends so you can build together. If you want to move before you're too invested in your new base then give me a shout and we'll move you over.
