Why can't our roads be repaired this quick?

This is seriously impressive stuff.

It seems to take almost forever to get stuff done on British roads.  Putting a bridge in is an 18 month job, putting a tunnel in guarantees 2-3 years of roadworks and delays.  So how come other countries can do it in a weekend?

Netherlands - I take my hard hat off to you, your road workers are brilliant!

Easy answer, because they charge 150 Euros a month for Road tax and 14% tax on every car bought whether it be new or used. If you want good roads, you need to pay for them. The quality of road building is high here but the cost is also high.

Also this is not a typical Dutch road project. Normally they are on wet ground and they need to wait weeks between applying new layers to the road in order to prevent the saturated ground from damaging the road. In Haarlem where I live, it took the Gemeente 1 year to build a 500m stretch of bike lane along side the river. It was a mess for so long I thought they had stopped the project.

It took them a year to build a small area behind the main station in Haarlem with a 3 story metal and concrete bike park. The road afterwards is so uneven people are complaining about punctures and bike damage.

So the Dutch have their problems to rest assured.

The fact that it can be done is interesting. The Netherlands also pay higher income tax than the UK (I believe the average income bracket pay 42% ?) At the very least it put's into perspective how long some projects 'claim' they need to take.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

Don't get me started about the tunnel they made next to me. :lmfao:
Almost Albert: Gemeente.

They sometimes have to many rules to work by. Some projects if they are planned correctly will go like this indeed.

True, of course we used to think it took hours to build a server but now within 5 minutes you can have a new one in Amazon ready to be used. They actually tax bonus payments at 57% but 40% comes up very quickly.
