with regards to that video, compare the right and left screens during the 8 minute point demo - there is a clear difference in content on the 2 screens - the '700 $ solution' screen has higher res textures, better shadows (look at the terrain), more units of the field, better explosions... this is NOT a side by side comparison. Sure your 500 $ solution will keep up with a 700 $ one in framerate, IF you nerf the graphics settings?????
I did check.up a bit on this as textures did seem to be different...

Helps explain it a bit

Well interesting again if that is indeed the case.
Looked a lot worse on the left to me!

It's the same demo, to the same settings afaiaa, but keep in mind that DX12 is rendered and looks very different on screen from nVidia to AMD.  Ashes of Singularity is the name of the demo if you are interested.

The benchmark is DX12 and takes advantage of the asynchronous computing mentioned.    Read more here:

Those are the differences between the quality of the pictures you are seeing I believe.

Edit: just read Milli's post.   +1 Milli!

I know the texture situation re: Milli's post etc. but there was a zoom difference between the 2 screens as well. Not sure how that would effect the frame rate, assume zoomed out is less detailed so can achieve greater FPS.

But that's being pedantic, the performance was awesome and the quality, meh, who care about a 5% difference for that price.

TLDR:
CIG are actively looking to adopt the new Vulcan API and are reworking the current system to move it towards a more parallel set of jobs with asynchronous computing rather than the traditional single thread.

Bump for anyone interested in buying a 1080 or 1070.

There's also the Corsair cooled GTX 107/80s coming out if you want to spend a fortune. I'm considering selling my GTX 980 and getting a 1080, I estimate 50% of the cost of the new card can be covered by selling the old one. Also the 980TI cards are coming down really cheap now, under 400 UK.

Im still waiting for my strix 1080.  Theres been massive shortage on certain cards.  (Strix especially - order placed may 28th ... and as of wednesday past I was queue position 91)

The price of them has just massively.. strix 1080 i pre ordered at £625... it is now sitting at £750.

There are other cards now coming in stock but all prices have jumped up (brexit / exchange rate to blame) so I'd be out of pocket if i changed now.

It's about â,¬930 for that card in Europe, â,¬915 for the MSI SEA Hawk with the Hydro cooler. Is there something special about the STRIX?

No sure about the 1060 but this is interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4TkD8VP094 test build of the RX480.

or vs the 1070, where the RX480 is poor in some areas but surprisingly close in others.

The strix oc is fastest card (or supposed to be) outt of the 1080 cards.

Luckily OCUK honour the price i bought it at so im sticking the wait out till it comes otherwise will lose out.

interesting review about the 480 vs nvidea option, even tho it looks like a single 1080 is still gonna be the way to go basically having 2 cards in sli or x-fire.
u still has to have the best driver support and software support, else you don't benefit from a second card, so 2x480 vs a 1080 may be better on some games but not all.

Apart from VR, what are people playing that needs the grunt of a 1080?
