Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

I am done with EA's big multiplayer games (battlefield, battlefront). The gameplay and personal long-term appeal don't justify the price of entry for me anymore.

Been playing the Alpha over the last couple of weeks.

It's Alpha so bear with me... Graphics - Excellent. Game play - good but it will be better (hit boxes aren't great yet).

Likes:

Tanks! - Not nearly as strong as BF3/4. Also, getting into some of them takes about 3-4 seconds.
Luftwaffe - :D - good thing is that they're aren't OP and it is actually difficult to kill from high above
Melee Kills - Bayonet Charge - By far the most fun.

Dislikes:
Hit boxes and other unfinished bits
PRICE!!

I know what you're saying, there will obviously be "downloads" that will need to be purchased to continue to play all the maps or modes (it's EA after all), and strangely there isn't a premium pack available.......

BUT, when I consider the enjoyment I get from Battlefield and the amount of time I play it the cost per hour is probably less then I pay for my TV license and I definitely enjoy a bit of Battlefield more then a lot of the crap that the TV presents for us (love you Wookie xxx).

It's pre-order on CD-Keys for £31.99, plus of course unknown "add on packs" in the future, or the chance to "upgrade" to premium for another £30 I've no doubt.

I'm just a sucker for a bit of Battlefield goodness.

Nothing wrong with that lion and can completely see where you're coming from. For me it has just lost that appeal and as a result loses that cost per hour value.

Of course such arguments are flawed in gaming. I paid £15 for Ark and have nearly 300 hours in it, but £30 for Doom - 5 or 6 hours in and loving every comparatively expensive minute.

It comes down to what you think is a fair price for the experience. Doom gives me less gameplay time than Ark but is a phenomenal contained experience. Different products but both worth the price of entry to me. Battlefield imo has become a sausage factory, every game a tweaked reskin of the last. It's that combined with the repaying again and again that puts me off. I don't so much have an issue with EA tbh, I'd buy a game they put out if it was something new / appealing, I'd just take real convincing to believe BF1 provided that.

EA have announced the DLC for BF1, which you can preorder when you preorder the other half of the game. For £40!  you can get all the stuff I think should have just been part of the original game, which will itself cost £50. That's the rest of the maps, guns, skins and content.
So that's just shy of a hundred quid for one complete game spoon fed to us as DLC expansions right up until EA launch the sequel (cynical rehash of the original game asset's).
Are you going to get it? I loved the Franchise but this is, for me, an EA cynical money grab too far. £90 no thanks.

Love the games and this one looked interesting but I don't think I can get it. I brought hardline and was disappointed and battlefield 4 was fun, broken as hell when it first came out but wasn't worth the £90 for all that and the few extra maps they brought out. Your better off buying two great games, like Arma for your good shooting fun that's a bit more tactical but with mods there so much more you can do then just the base game

I think my main concern, apart from the unease (yes, I know it's hypocritical) about treating WW1 like a Michael Bay movie, is have they done anything with the gameplay formula at all?

If it's still shoot guys -> stand near a capture point -> repeat, I'm out.

I have a near completely unspoiled BF4 Uber license with a gozillion boxes of nonsense unopened and a bunch of skins and useless bling unused. It was 50 Euros and birthday money was spent on it.

I make the same mistake only twice. BC2 gave me great pleasure and BF3 and BF4 caused heartache. No more.
Cheers, Bert

I will get it in a month or so. I'll show you at the LAN and you can point and laugh and tell me what a waste of money it was.
