If you haven't experienced long distance exploration in Elite, now might be the time to try it. Some people build a ship that can go for months, in real time away from any outpost and do some planetary landings, investigate unknown object and take scans.

Frontier always were very clear in saying they would not tell players what secrets the game contained and if you wanted to make discoveries you had to go further afield.

Here are a few examples:

He finds a probe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5xW240lJ30 - scans it, gets a message, his ship was shut down in the process.

Someone decodes the message: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/4thviv/unknown_probe_sound_decoded/

Another message is decoded which seems to be a part of a larger communication: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/4thwiz/second_spectral_analysis_confirms_up_sound_decoded/

This is becoming more common in the game with explorers going a long way to scan and discover new systems and planets. This is even before landing and using the buggy to look for traces of civilization.

Arithon is a very active member of the ED community and his blog is awesome and promotes dMw even though our activity in ED is low. You should check it out:

One little gem of advice is to go to the two outlying outposts and see what you can find there. These were build as a result of community goals.

I am going to take a run out to the Merope system to look for Unknown Probes and Barnacles.

If anyone cares to join, PM me in game and I'll join whatever instance they're in.

Hi Arithon, What are the 2 stations you trade between on the outer rim or whatever are is outside the circle?

Found it: Sothis/Ceos runs

Sothis runs:-

Get a ship with a good jump range. A rated FSD with D-rated everything else. Don't bother with weapons.  Frankly if you get that weight, you might as well get an A rated  thruster instead for quick getaways. If you get interdicted in a trader,  you are going to run anyway.

A good fuel scoop is essential. A 20-30 jump trip there and back is tedious and perilous if you have to spend ages refuelling.

As much cargo space as possible.

Having your ship set, depart for CEOS. When you arrive there, go to either station or outpost and grab all the missions to take legal cargo or data to SOTHIS. You don't want to damage your reputation or get Wanted.

Fly to SOTHIS and deliver the missions, then collect any similar  missions for CEOS while checking all factions for 300-500Lyr delivery  missions. These will offer rewards starting around 1M cr (depending on  your rank). Grab those! As your reputation with the local SOTHIS  factions rises, so will the rewards. Many missions are worth 5M cr and  are for delivering 4T of Biowaste!

Repeat the trips between SOTHIS and CEOS, raising your reputation until  you fill your cargo hold with long-range delivery mission cargo. Then  fly back to the bubble and deliver. Get rich. Go back to CEOS/SOTHIS  when you feel like doing it again.

On the (longer) trip back, if you hit a briar-patch of brown stars and  fuel is below 25%, go into the galaxy map, switch to "econonmic" and  keep going. You will hit a scoop-able star eventually, but use the STAR TYPE filter on the galaxy map to find one if fuel gets too low.

Nice one. Thanks. And anyone with an Asp can do this easily.

This is a better version of the smuggling system we used, but it is now a LOT easier.
A typical cutter run will net you 60-75 million per run. Whic means you can easily afford nice goodies!

See you out in the void.

And it's not just about making money in Elite. Anyone who has left the game and hasn't tried the latest few major updates especially if you own the season pass is missing out on some pretty cool stuff from salvage missions to exploration community challenges.

There are lots of things to do now in a wing but also its easy enought to make multiple wings.

Elite in dMw is at the play it or lose it level. If there is not a noticable return to the game from players then it will be replaced as a supported game.

Now I like empyrion and that might be a good candidate for a replacement space building game but Elite is still a superior space sim and looks amazing visually and even with Star Citizen in late Alpha it will have to go a long way to challenge Elite.

We'll have multi crew in the next but one update and this week as an existing player I askes to vote on the new ship delivery system. Maybe actual recoverable ships from salvage will be along soon. With multi crew we'll have 1st person pilots.

C'mon folks. How about giving it another go?

Tuesday is the evening we decided upon a long while back.

I'll drop by and mine with you for sure, I want to try out getting some resources for engineering upgrades. I'll be online after dinner this evening and Tuesday, around 7.30pm CEST.

I need a break from Empyrion, it's driving me block crazy.

I'll try to come on. Might be a little bit later.

I was on last night, and spotted Arithon and Carrot also online.

I was looking for elements on a planet but I'll also setup for mining and can do a bit of that as well. I'm currently on the planet Heilelang 3 in the Heilelang system where some people have reported Polonium can be found. (so far after 6 rocks none but a couple of new things I never had).

I'll come online probably about 8pm.

Sorry, but due to the nice weather I will have to cancel. I can't play when it is like this.
