13. Separation of Client and Server:
- Client and server are now separated
- You can download “Empyrion - Galactic Survival Dedicated Server” from the Steam client via Library -> Tools
- If the Empyrion dedicated server does not show up under Tools in your Library, you can install it via SteamCMD as follows:
a. Install SteamCMD from https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SteamCMD
b. Open console/command line prompt and navigate to the directory you installed SteamCMD
c. Enter the following command:
steamcmd +login anonymous +force_install_dir "../Empyrion - Dedicated Server" +app_update 530870 +quit

Following this procedure will install the Empyrion Dedicated Server in  the folder “Empyrion â€" Dedicated Server” beside the folder where  steamcmd is installed. If needed, you may change the folder name to your  liking.

Pretty excited about this update, however this is a little concerning:

We recommend starting a new game in Alpha 4.0. Please note, however, that your old save games are technically compatible in Alpha 4.0 but the visuals (e.g. light intensity - especially during night) will be messed up due to the switch to linear space

Would have been nice to fly the big ship into the planet first.

Maybe update first and then let people say their goodbyes before a wipe.

Once we have wiped and started a fresh, can I suggest we set up a 'community hub' on Akua as a centre point. - nice community project

As has been proved on other survival games which eventually don't rely on group protection, people just go off and do their own thing or just aren't interested in the survival aspect of... err..... the survival game :blink:.

Unfortunately most promising survival games seem to be more PvP oriented after initial comfort is established.

The island in the lake in the current map was originally earmarked as a community area, but in a game where your start location depends on the time of day you join and the amount of time you play, it's hard to do a central base. It also takes away a lot of the initial survival aspects. As such we had people on other planets before we had some people with roof over their heads and the centre island start block despawned.

Orbit is probably the only place you can do a community area and that's purely a staging area for sorties.

Maybe as the game is enhanced further we may get regenerating enemy structures and such or attacks from space, I would love some sort of regenerating fleet staging area which we could have battles with the AI or AI which could capture our own structures when we are away for too long.

Could we wipe but have blueprints available for a short period to get our caps back? If the answer is no I totally understand and respect it!
