As we have changed the hardware and software that runs the gaming servers we would be interested in your opinion on the effectiveness of the work undertaken. Has it improved performance, do you notice better connections etc?

Your feedback would be welcome.

As I've already said elsewhere, we were on Meathook this evening and it was smoother than a silk encased smooth thing. No crashes, no lag, no s**t!

I jumped on the server solo last night when I got back and I have to say that my usual 130-170ms ISDN Steam ping was 78ms

So on that very unscientific basis I reckon that the upgrades have made a big difference. Let's hope the anecdotal evidence proves itself to be true eh

Well that can be but you went solo now try it out when there are people playing.

But for myself my connecting time to the server takes a bit longer. But the gaming is better for so far i know.

same for me TL .....my ping has gone from 100-130 to a very creditable 60-80 and that was when the hook was loaded with about 12 playin'

no complaints from me !!!!!

does'nt feel as jumpy as usual, less lag spikes ,seems alot better to me

No probs - avg ping of 40 has gone down to 20-30.

I also like all the new "bits n pieces" such as the damage counters.

However, the use of novelty sound fx got a bit out of hand at points

I have to say, I think the fact we be using the nice an expensive 3com NIC instead of the poo onboard nic has made the most difference.

Let that be a lesson to us all :huh:

Erm, against all these glowing reports I ahve some slight worries. There was serious lag the other night on de_survivor, others (Liberator i think?) can bear testament to that, it was worse than I've ever had before even on a 14.4K!
Once we went to a diff map tho it all got better. Even my re-connect didnt help things tho...
That aside, pings were great and a lot smoother
