Evening all.

Got an issue with the broadband at home and wondering if anyone can shed any light.
Connection died at 11:00 Saturday.  Tried rebooting everything but no joy.  Asus rt-n66u router with external Openreach white box ECI modem.
Router logs reporting PADO timeout when contacting modem.
Contacted ISP and was advise line tested fine from their end but looked like an issue with the router and since that's mine I need to replace it.  Router is quite old so went along with that as unable to scrounge a spare to test. Bought a new AC68U with integrated vdsl.  Just set up and getting exactly the same errors.
So either it's an asus problem or is at the ISP end.
Any thoughts on what I can get them to check?  With a bit of luck I can wangle a couple of free months in lieu of unnecessary (but very nice) new router.
Excuse terse descriptions but limited to posting from the phone.

PADO stands for PPPoE Active Discovery Offer.

So basically what happens is that your router will send a PADI - basically "Hi! Here's my MAC address, lets setup a connection" and you're not getting the PADO response back and your router is logging this as the timeout.
In other words, this is something you can't control - it will either work or it won't.
The ISP should know this. Even though the line itself maybe fine (remember, it's still twisted pair phone line to the house) there could be an issue at the DSLAM.
I would just keep nagging the ISP to fix it.
